There's 37 breweries within a 5 mile radius of my house (yes, I counted). Trying to figure out the 5 closest ones would take all day. That said, the closest great breweries are Cascade, Hair of the Dog, Upright, The Commons, and Culmination, are of which are within 3 miles of my house.

Here's a fun walking tour. There's at least a half dozen more breweries along this route, but I just included the 5 I mentioned above.

The ‘highlights’ for me are:

· Tired Hands

· Forest and Main

· Victory

· Sly Fox Yards

· Iron Hill (multiple locations)

Yup. lots of tasty beer on that list.

Living in a small country is perhaps cheating, but with a brewery for each 40000 people and 60 square miles there aren't many places more than a few minutes drive from a brewery.

Near me are:

1. Lagunitas
2. Petaluma Hills
3. Russian River
4. Hen House
5. Cooperage

All of these are quite good, with the obvious heavy hitters, but Hen House is under the radar and brews some great beer.

 

From zero breweries six years ago to five now, our metro area has grown substantially.

Drekker - 7 minutes, 2.1 miles
Junkyard - 8 minutes, 1.8 miles
Fargo - 10 minutes, 3 miles
Kilstone - 12 minutes, 4.5 miles
Flatland - 17 minutes, 9.9 miles

More important than specific distance, however, is relative quality. Drekker is okay. I have had several flawed beers there, but also a few good ones. I will likely go back for a flight again soon tom check on the general level. Junkyard s absolutely amazing. The IPAs are really solid, the new Dream Burst in particular is world class, the sours they do are top rate, and they have a few awesome Belgians, dark beers, a genius kolsch, ans solid English sessionables. Fargo is solid, with a good lineup up packaged beers and occasional good specials. Kilstone I have only been to once, I had a flight of four and one more after. Two were really good, one was solid, one was not very good, and the other was deeply flawed. I have not been to Flatland yet, but they are less than three months old, and I like to give a new place time to dial it in.

It is very nice to have some good options in close proximity.

Absolution - 3.9 miles
Strand - 4.8 miles

I'm indifferent to three of the five, and consider one of the other two the absolute worst brewery I've ever been to. Only El Segundo does anything for me in this bunch.

Luckily, I have the following slightly further away:

Monkish - 5.3 miles
Beachwood - 14 miles

I rarely go to any breweries aside from these, for obvious reasons, and within that almost always to Beachwood.

Closest to me is Black Lotus-2 min, .8 miles. I haven't been in years because of mediocre beer. They did get a new brewer so maybe things changed. Beer average 3.64

Bastone-10 minutes, 3.4 miles. Beer average 3.65

Royal Oak Brewery-11 minutes, 3.5 miles. IMO, average beer. My wife likes the food. We go here a lot. Beer average 3.64

Griffin Claw-11 minutes, 4.1 miles. Great food, great beer. Beer average 3.93

River Rouge-11 minutes, 4.2 miles. Havent been but have been hearing good things. Beer average 4.06

Kuhnhenn(Warren, the original)-12 minutes, 5 miles. This is the one I go to most often because the beer (& mead) is the best closest choices . Beer average 3.83
