Gotta do something with that aircraft hanger of empty space.

Agreed with the old beer comment. My local packies all have it but it's very old (and dusty at this point). Took a pic on 8/1 of a 4pk dated 2/16/16. No wonder they have distro to 8 states... they can't move it in their own state.

It's probably obvious, but I really do want these other breweries to give TH and Trillium a run. I am sympathetic to the tough cycle of having beer expire and having to write off the loss. However, to say that Evolupulin or Boom Sauce would ever be confused with even the worst offerings from TH or Trillium is a real stretch from where I sit. I think the Evolupulin is a much more traditional malty tasting IPA. Boom Sauce has always been a tad too hot. Particularly if it is 60 days old or older - then it is malty also. To say that the beer we are drinking from the west coast is older isn't necessarily true. I won't buy Enjoy By anywhere near the enjoy by date. It's just way too malty by then.

I'm not a brewer, so I don't have any real concept of what the contribution of skills and ingredients are required to make a Fort Point or a Haze or an Abner. The only parallel that I know of is in the pizza business where there are so many pizza shops that make crappy pizza, but either out of pride or a lack of skill, don't take the time to just copy what someone else is doing well. Is there a secret sauce in both cases? Maybe. Is it that the chefs/brewers aren't able to develop an unbiased view of their own creations? Likely.

It's also a matter of the people who frequent somewhere's preference. Crappy pizza to you isn't crappy pizza to someone else. Some people like a sweeter sauce, thin/thicker crust, different cheese blends, dough recipe, cooking temp... Etc. If every pizza was the same that would be boring AF and tons of people's preferences would be left in the dust.

Same with beer. You can't really compare boom sauce or evolupulin to trillium or TH because they aren't trying to be the same thing.

There are plenty of places trying to copy what FW does and failing. There a good number trying to copy what trillium and treehouse do. It all ends with a couple hitting thier goal and a bunch of subpar knockoffs.

I like lord hobo. I just don't think that its really worth the price. Boom sauce imo is a solid double. Personally I would take sea hag over steal this can. I'm not even a fan of citra single hops but like hobo life. I wasn't too fond of eureka with citra (nelson and galaxy versions are great). Would take a hobo life over one. That said I would take a two roads little heaven over hobo life. They don't put anything out that justifies the high premium imo. Except for maybe boomsauce. And even that.

I wish that someone could come close to what tree house does. I haven't had trill, sadly. I'll never understand why so many brewerys in CT seem to feel the need to brew a west coast ipa. The market is fucking saturated with them and good ones at that. Its also not a style that I prefer.

I do like what lord hobo is doing. Just wish that the prices were a little more in line. Shouldn't be charging lawsons prices imo.

You mean the beers they've been brewing for years, in most cases, for which they have hop contracts? You mean the beers that have been decent to excellent sellers before this "NE IPA juice bomb" thing happened? I'm sorry, not trying to be snarky. But it's not quite as simple as, "Hey let's make a new style that requires a gazilion hops!" Ya know?

1.5 months is fine, but if you're at Ft. Point Market you can typically grab a fresh 4 pack of NS (or walk next door) and get a comparable amount of fresher, local beer for a nominal amount more.

Except you fail to recall the entire point of Lord Hobo Brewing... a hop forward Brewery that brews "Boom Sauce" - a beer that will "wrap you in a gently carbonated juice blanket".

In a Boston Magazine Article in Feb 2015 prior to opening it was said "The aptly named Lord Hobo Brewing Company, located at 5 Draper Street in Woburn, will feature a range of beers, all of which will share one common attribute: hops. And lots of them. " and " “We’re going to be brewing lots of beers and lots of different styles, but our initial rollout will primarily be hoppy ales,” Lanigan says. "
    (source : http://www.bostonmagazine.com/restaurants/blog/2015/02/03/lord-hobo-brewing-company-set-open-woburn/)

So -- they went into this whole thing with super hoppy and fresh IPAs in the grand plan.

I agree that there are a bunch of good ways to make pizza that are different in a good way. There are also hundreds of crappy prefab pizza joints that all use the same formula. Are there people that say they like that pizza? Sure, but it's generally because they don't know any better (have other comparable options) or they just don't have a discerning enough palate to demand better quality. I wish I was those people. I wouldn't spend so much time or money on beer and food.

I think pride and other factors go into what drives the pizza/beer creators actions. Some of the hubris and pride allows for bold, new creations that people wait in line for. Some of it creates a lack of understanding of market dynamics and ability to make adjustments when things aren't working. Remember when Green Flash West Coast was a super appreciated beer (I know that it was in my beer circles)? I'm not sure whether they did something or my palate changed, but I find it wholly underwhelming now (again, freshness could be playing a part here).

Again, I really want to love Boom Sauce. I'm a sucker for packaging and great names and they are near or at the top in that category. I liked it the first time I had it on draft. I just won't take the chance now that the cans are any good. There's just too much out there that I can count on that is more readily available. Sculpin, FW, Be Hoppy - never mind the trips to Trillium - are all more likely to be enjoyable. If LH is trying to do something differently, it isn't working.

Green Flash changed the WCIPA recipe and it sucked ever since.

Lastly, LHBC is expanding and installing a restaurant brew pub after what has to be concidered from a business standpoint a successful year. It isn't not working.

I know a bunch of people who aren't as deeply ensconced into craft beer as you or I that love it and buy it regularly. I work with a lot of people who are quite loyal to Blue Hills Brewing Co. Trillium is 5 min down thr road. They dont care. Different strokes for different folks. If you need to equate that to them being less classy people with less refined palates go ahead. There is a huge market for beer you don't think is tops. Look no further than the top selling beers and craft beers.

I won't touch boomsauce again. They are still selling a ton of it.

FWIW, I certainly did not mean to say that refined palates and class were at all the same thing.

If the kitchen at Lord Hobo's new beer hall is as good as the kitchen at Lord Hobo Bar then it will be worth a stop, especially if they have outdoor seating. I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Personally, I wouldn't take boomsauce or steal this can over nebco seahag which is way cheaper. I like that they have that clean flavor without the west coast ting (I'm assuming yeast). I would take boomsauce over sculptin all day long. Would also take green flash west coast or alesmith ipa over sculptin any day either.

Boomsauce isn't even that hard to find in CT anymore. There are just a few local usually fresher options that I would prefer. I still think that boomsauce and steal this can are solid brews from what I remember. Just don't justify the price imo.

WTF is a juice blanket? That is the real question that should be discussed in this thread...

See, you're missing the point of LHBC. Their stated goal is not to be a brewery that's hard to find--they're trying to be ubiquitous.

Too bad they're failing on their goal of delivering high quality NE-style IPAs, because it seems they have the quantity part down...

Is it quantity or it just doesn't exactly fly off the shelf? My usual package store gets way more sea hag and it never lasts the week.
