So, people get reputations for different styles, like when i think of a new Berliner Weisse coming out i know StakeM is getting it and going to offer a good rating, cause he is the Berliner Weisse expert.

Is anyone out there the Chili Beer expert?

I've recently turned my attention to chile beer, as I seem to have run out of obscure malt liquors to tick. There are only 112 active ones on the site, of which only 22 have more than 10 reviews. I've reviewed about a quarter of those and I have a few more (Ghost Scorpion!) in the fridge.

Unfortunately, most of the listings are tap/cask-only as they're often infused with peppers in the keg/cask. There are only about 25 bottled chile beers out there, and a bunch are pretty much impossible to trade for as they're from Australia, UK, Canada, etc. I also refuse to trade for 64oz growlers of chile beers as it's too expensive - at least with malt liquors I'm only out $2 if they're disgusting.

womencantsail has had 10, drabmuh has had 8, BuckeyeNation has had 7, and I have had 6. I can't find any other users with more chile beer reviews.

    Holy Damn.

That was in depth and informative.

    You had me at

PS. That Ghost Scorpion is going to murder you. I wish i would be around when you open it to casually say "nah, it's not that bad, take a big mouthfull." So i could watch the show. We had a good time in the DLD line with that beer.

I've had 8, 6 bottled, I just keep my reviews to the .25 beer hads scale, for now. Wouldn't consider myself an expert by any means, just love chile beers, even found Ghost Face Killah to be delicious, if not slow drinking, had chili made with ghost peppers before and it tasted similar. I'm sure there's someone out there who's had way more, but just hasn't reviewed em.

I'm usually not fan of this style, even though i love chile outside of beer. My favorite that i've tried is Cocoa Mole.

Well since they are usually not 100% categorized as "chile beers" I'm not totally sure but I have had a lot of them. Founders Spite is pretty good. I've tried several good ones form Ballast Point that seems to be their thing. Just has De Molen Rook & Vuur and it is a smoked chili beer. Waaay to over carbonated.

Yeah - if you include all the Hunahpu's variants, 3 Floyds beers chiles, Abstrakt AB:04, etc. I've had quite a few myself. Heck, I just traded a Bourbon DL for a Cognac de Muerte.

I'm no master, but I do love them. In fact, I made chili beers my mission this year at the Great Taste. I tried all 12 in the program, which is awesome considering last year there were only three, so that means they must be getting more popular.

Here was the star of the show:

It had the perfect amount of heat for me with an enjoyable base beer that brought me back three or four times. I didn't go back for any of the other ones, so that's saying something.

PS: Speaking of going back, I was the only one who asked for seconds on the Ghost Scorpion at DLD. I thought it was awesome! I'll never forget the look on Pasta's face when he unknowingly slammed four ounces all at once. :grinning:

Just finished a growler of Founders Spite across three days....a very nice one in my opinion. When it warmed up, it was nice for me...but then again I drank most of it while eating some chicken tacos with fresh jalapenos and serranos.

Other than Spite, this was my favorite chili beer.

I've reviewed 6 (Theobroma, Cocoa Mole, RealTail 2012, Ghost Scorpion, Billy's Chilies, and Ring of Fire), and have tried 3 more (Ghost Face Killah, Rogue Chipotle, and Cave Creek Chili Beer) for a total of 9.

I've reviewed a few pepper beers and several beers of other styles with chili peppers added (Hunahpu's, all three Beer Geek Rodeo variations).

I also homebrew a mean porter that I age on Tabasco barrel-chips for a month.

I participated in the Hotter Than Hot BIF a few years ago.

So, I consider myself a chili beer connoisseur. Undisputed master? That's for you to decide.

I have only had 3 but they were all pretty tasty, but definitely not something I would want to drink a lot of. The Firefly and Mayan Mocha Stout by Odd Side Ales use habanero peppers I believe. I also had Barrel Aged Cherry Bomb by The Livery which used Serrano peppers.
