So for my anniversary tomorrow, I would normally grab a bottle of champagne, but instead might try to find a beer we will both like. I'll only do this if I'm fairly confident that she will actually enjoy the beer, so it doesn't look like I just bought it for myself (and so I don't get a ton of responses cr@ping all over this idea).

Essentially, I'm looking for a beer with qualities similar to champagne, so that it's familiar but also potentially increases her appreciation of beer - nothing too hoppy, bitter, roasted or funky/sour. Light body with moderate sweetness or fruit are all probably good ideas. Bonus for being a corked 750ml, but capped is ok too - ya know, fancy looking and all. Double bonus for not being too expensive.

I generally reach for the big IPAs and stouts, so my experience is more limited here. I've gotten her to appreciate La Fin du Monde before (said it was her favorite at the time), but for some reason she doesn't seem to like it anymore. Plus, maybe not the best named beer for a wedding anniversary:stuck_out_tongue: .

Thanks! And a good suggestion - would like to keep it a bit cheaper, though. Trying to stick to a budget, and $30 is alot for any beer.

Also Kmello - I'm at work and can't see any pictures unfortunately.

Easy...Miller High Life - The Champagne of Beer

Actually, Logsdon Seizona Bretta - Really nice pear fruit, not too funky and has a great mouth feel. A very elegant beer.

some of the things on this list could fly, depending on what's around you

Oro de Calabaza should hit most of your desired qualities, although like most JP beers, it's a little tart

Happy anniversary! I would also recommend the bottle of Deus Brut and add that it's a special occasion and you can't put a price on love. The pic was Infinium, and wish I could find Deus for $30, it's usually around $40 here.

Lindemann's Cuvee Renee will fit the bill. And it's widely available...I think. and somewhere around $12-15

Off of that list I really liked the 3 Monts Flanders Golden Ale, highly carbonated and very tasty. And at $8 a bottle it might be what he is looking for.

That's true- you could probably get a champagne like Nicolas Fuillatte for that price.

A Berliner Weiss might work- it wasn't called the 'Champagne of the North' for nothing; it's got similar bready, yeasty, slightly tart notes. Professor Fritz is definitely affordable ($6 range), but unfortunately comes in 500 ml bottles, so fancy-looking may be out the window. Really nice beer, though, especially for the price.

I second or third the DeUS suggestion - celebrated the Superbowl with it myself last year.

Has she ever tried a Hennepin from Ommegang?
    Could be worth a shot.

    Cheers!

Really? For your anniversary? If I was getting wine for my anniversary, I wouldn't get a $30 wine...

It's not as carbonated as most of the other suggestions so it won't seem as much like a Champagne but she might enjoy Dogfish Head's Chateau Jiahu.

This was my 1st thought, and I'd definitely go with this based on your criteria.
