How about a saison? For NY distro, I'd suggest GI Sofie and Saison Dupont. I also liked the Brooklyn Local 1 idea. If you think she'd like anything sour, I'd also suggest Gueuze - 3F Oude Geuze and Girardin 1882 Black label are both dry and champagne-y.

Go for the gusto for a special occasion. I'm not suggesting a whale hunt, but I'd probably go for something a little more special than an everyday shelf item like Hennepin or Sofie.
The Deus idea is a good one. It's not cheap, but it's very unique. Is Ithaca Brute still around?

First off, congratulations. I'd go against the grain here and say that the best idea is just to go with champagne. It sounds from your description like your girlfriend likes but doesn't love beer. While getting her to increase her appreciation is a worthy goal, I'd say save it for a non-anniversary occasion. Tomorrow, you just want everything to go smoothly. No reason to take any chances.

If anything I'd say grab a bottle of champagne and any of the tasty beers suggested above (might be cost prohibitive, but you could grab a smaller bottle of beer) and taste both side by side. That way if she hates the beer you have the champagne as a fall-back (and you get to drink all the beer yourself  ), but you still get to expose her to the beer, and tasting both side by side might be a fun little activity. No matter what you decide, I hope you have a great day.

I know it's a bit odd to be cheap on the anniversary (and, let's face it, $30 is nothing crazy at the end of the day). But it's just our style - we try to save money wherever we can and try to appreciate any sort of luxury (beer/wine) even if it isn't the best or most expensive. We are fortunate enough to be in a position where we can generally afford everything we need, but we try to live as though that could change any day.

She's the kind of girl that would much prefer that I spend NO money and just spend some time with her (hard to believe, I know), than go crazy with gifts and expensive meals. I sort of hit the jackpot in that sense. Anyway, with a 10-month old crying, it's not like this is going to be the most romantic night anyway.

But, having said all that, I'm still considering even the expensive options you guys mentioned, because some really do seem perfect. Also considering the safe route and sticking to champagne. There is a liquor store near one of my bottle shops, so should be easy to get either.

Do you get fantome? I would suggest the reg. saison. It has a bit of a fruity quality(like cherry kool aide) and is not hugely sour or funky. There is variation in bottles, but most seem to have this quality. As for the infinium that has been mentioned, I really thought that beer was horrible, especially for the price. If it were $10, it would be worth the novelty, just my opinion though. Not sure the price of Dues, but is is much better than infinium, for a champagne beer. Good luck in your search, and congrats! would love to hear your final decision, and after thoughts, if you don't mind posting.
    Cheers!

No its really not. My wife likes both flavors and I traded these for her and they have the finish of cream soda. Therefore she didnt like either of them. They arent as light on the palate as people thing.

    Cheers!

Ok, I called my local shop about a few of my favorite suggestions so far, and they aren't available. Still plenty of great backups mentioned, but I think I'm going to take this in a different direction.

Champagne will be a good, safe start. But I have a bottle of Creme Brulee in the cellar (i.e. tiny beer fridge) that she has been curious about and might actually like. So I think I'll make that a dessert beer, and no big deal if she doesn't love it.

Again, much appreciate all the suggestions, and I'll still track down a few of these just for my own enjoyment.
