Scared to ask but, what's a "boss" pour?

You should go to a different store. Lots of options out there.

Glad I'm not the only one wondering, but ya, what's a boss pour? If this is like Tony Danza a'la "Who's The Boss" pouring your beer, then I agree it could be weird. but if it's Alyssa Milano.....that would be ok.

Some minor irritations perhaps but generally speaking I'm pretty happy with the whole thing.

I had to look it up, but apparently a boss pour is pouring to the very rim of the glass with zero head because it looks good in pictures.

Bars and restaurants without a beer list. Then the staff usually has to go check when you ask. It seems to be getting worse instead of better around me. Seriously, print out a beer list on plain, cheap white paper, or get a chalk/dry erase board. Not that difficult.

People call pours that are to the very top of a Tulip or snifter with no head. "Boss Pours."

It's just a term for a larger / full pour versus a few ounces. I see it used online a lot.

I would gather, if they don't have a list anywhere that the selection usually is pretty bad? Or maybe the opposite, and very exclusive? That's gotta be annoying.

Two of mine are people who drink beer out of paper cups and people who misspell Pliny. Congratulations.

Beer stores that keep an excessive amount of stuff "in the back", especially larger stores like Binny's. I get it if it's something super-limited that won't last the day. However, if I have to ask about 6 different recent releases and you have 4 of them, that's a bit much. Then I get annoyed when I waste time tracking down "the beer guy", who then gets annoyed when he spends several minutes rummaging around the stock room.

Please either post a sign/whiteboard with what limited stuff is not on the shelf or have a "rare beer rack" for random stuff you don't want to put on the normal shelves. It will save both of us some time and frustration.

Blame this on America's ridiculous determination to have a units system different from the rest of the world. In America 1 pint does indeed equal 16 ounces.

Out of curiosity ... do folks up in Canada also refer to a pint as 16 ounces or are you mainly referring to when you see/hear Americans using the term?

Canada has it the worst; they use BOTH systems of measurement!

I dont want to drive longer than 30 min just to buy beer unless im going to a brewery. I live on the shore blocled off by a state forest to the west so i can go south 30 minutes or north 45 to be anywhere of significance. The island has ship bottom brewery but its not worth the 2 hour traffic ride in the summer. Its kind of aimed at the fact that every brewer has at least 2 ipas it seems. I work in one of the stores and we see more ipas than anything but it was up to us wed look for stouts and gose more often than we already do. As a predominantly belgian beer fan id love to see new ones but until then i rely on the classics.

But regardless im pretty happy with how craft is growing

people posting pictures of their beer online and the beer is filled all the way to the VERY top of the glass with absolutely no foam at all.

Just makes me wonder how long they took just to get that shot. No respek for the beer. Pshh .

Exactly! No one likes surprises and guesswork. Though I will say, sometimes it leads to pleasant surprises where the establishment apparently doesn't know what it has and serves it up in pints. That is extremely rare though.

    Overall, information = good

Paying more than $12 for a bomber of IPA (probably the cheapest thing to brew).

They are really good, my wife loves them, there's some bad ones, but Stiegl isn't one of them. Very refreshing and a nice cure for palate fatigue.

Legally it is 20 oz, there's even a government site setup to report under pouring.
