hoarders cuvee sounds good. the Baltic porter with maple would have been great if they didn't put fucking indian food in it.

The emails call it "pre-public release" so that's most likely the case with Plum.

Anyone get to sample Rue Sans yet?

You do understand that Fenugreek doesn't taste like curry, right?

Are Squirrel! and The Grade the same beer? Just two different names?

I wouldn't consider it like the other beers they've made with spices since this has one, singular spice in it. Also, the spice that's in it tastes like maple, which is a base flavor of the beer.

I'll be going up there tonight, I'll tell you how bad/good it is.

I thought The Grade was a nod towards the way maple syrup is categorized (grade a, grade b, etc)

I apologize if this has been mentioned already, but I love the idea of the bottle list in the society fulfillment center. Went in to pick up my allocations and left with a 2011 Tart of Darkness. I don't know if it was just for SMM, but I can't recall seeing a beer fridge behind the counter last time I was in there.

Yeah I talked to them yesterday as well. They will be selling archive bottles from the fullfillment center from time to time. They will stock new bottles once the other ones are gone. I know as of yesterday they had, 2011 & 2012 Tart of Darkness, Tumescence, Smokey and the Bois, Shegoat, Atomic Kangarue, and Freckle/ They said they will not post anything at all about it. It is all word of mouth and just if you walk in and see them.

And you do know that curry isn't a 'spice', it's a blend of spice and herb that's different per region throughout India, so not every curry tastes the same.

So I went last night and here are my notes about each beer:

The Traveling Plum: Slight salt, light fruit and tartness, the spices don't take over like I was expecting it to. The color was a light golden straw, definitely not the color I was expecting to see. The mouthfeel was spot on: light and refreshing. A surprisingly good beer, but not something I could have 750 ml of.

The Grade: The maple is pretty subdued, you can taste the fenugreek more than the actual maple, which is isn't surprising. Once again, something I don't think I could have 750 ml of, but good nonetheless. I can see this being a polarizing beer, either you'll enjoy it or you'll hate it.

Rueminator: A great, brewed to style Doppelbock. The new oak barrels lend that oaky char flavor that compliments the base beer. Since the beer itself isn't too strong, the smoky character is very apparent. I enjoyed it quite a bit, and can see it evolving over time. If someone doesn't like smoky beers, they may not like this.

White Chocolate (2016) - I was drinking this right next to the 2012 White Chocolate so I was able to compare them. The 2016 White Chocolate was a little darker in color, and I felt it wasn't as heavy on the vanilla and cocoa nibs. It was still an enjoyable beer, but was nowhere near as good as the 2012.

Rue Sans: This tasted exactly like I was expecting it to. It was sweet and tart with that flowery grapeness in the background. As it warmed you got more of the flavors of the grapes. If you liked Bourgogne Blanc, you'd probably enjoy this quite a bit. It's not nearly as sour though, and as it warmed it got very sweet.

Hoarders Cuvee: I really wanted to like this, really. It was raspberries and chocolate on the nose, and tasted like a raspberry chocolate cake. As it warmed, the raspberries took over making it almost too much raspberry. I can see this being really good once it ages for a little and the raspberry takes a back seat, maybe it will be better out of a bottle. Definitely a dessert beer though, and I couldn't have more than a 6 oz pour.

I generally like the sticky sweet dessert beers and will try, but usually shy away from, large pours of sours. There you have it, take it as opinion, not fact.
