Does Schlafly still make this? I haven't seen it, except for an 8 year old bottle that I bought at the brewery last year.

I think so. I requested it at my shop here in Virginia about a year ago and they brought it in.

Great divide old ruffian and hibernation ale, hibernation is an old ale, but it's fantastic.
Anchor old foghorn, central waters bourbon barley wine, and bells third coast.

I'm guessing you live pretty close to me, then. I live in Horseheads. I had Cortland's Industrial IPA in Ithaca on Saturday.

I highly recommend Stone Old Guardian. It's hugely, insanely flavorful.

surprised no one's mentioned arctic devil yet...

should also check out double bastard and the variants (e.g. southern charred, depth charged, midnight brunch)...the ba variants are pricey but generally pretty solid. aged double bastard is real nice too!

I can't speak for everyone, but I discovered this site when it stopped being fun wasting money on the wonderful "rewarding journey" you spoke about. I think my fun has never been better than since I started finding out how to use the recommendations on this site to keep myself in a steady stream of beers I love.

Drinking a fine beer I can sip and think of all that is good about man and life I find much more rewarding than drinking one makes me think I pissed away my money and boy I wish I had a better beer in my glass. If that makes me a snob in your mind, oh well, I've been insulted worse and equally unjustifiably.

To repeat what others have said: You pretty much had 2 of the best examples out there.

But I would say try Anchor Old Foghorn, since it's the first BW produced in America. It's quite different from MOAS and Sucaba, and American-style Barleywines as well.

Barley Wines aren't really my thing, but Ballast Point Three Sheets is by far my favorite that I have tried.

I haven't had many sadly but just tried against the grain london balling and really like it. You can't go wrong with a 4 pack of 16oz cans at the price of most bombers.

Very true. Big Foot might be closer to a DIPA than a barleywine, but that's why I like it. A lot of other barleywines come off way too thick and sweet for my taste. Whatever you want to call it I love the stuff.

Kinda harsh Dude - not everyone is a ticker. I consulted MJs pocket guide to beer for 4 or 5 years when I was looking for a beacon at the start of my craft addiction in the 80's. How is asking bros on BA for advise any different ? MJ - may he rest in peace...

I'm a huge fan of the English styles but not so much of American. You're going to have to trade or purchase them off of secondary sites, but if you can, definitely try to get your hands on Omega Point or Brew 1000 as they are two of the best I've had. I'm still trying to get my hands on some Aaron though.
