Brewing amazing saisons and related styles without as much hype among the general beer crowd as they were previously?

I agree with @FrogOut69. They were already. starting to make some amazing mixed culture saisons. Without the IPAs. they would still be here. and still making good beer.

EDIT: Revised to the dcgunman style of writing.

Feeding the Fanatics. I love Citra, and Amarillo, and Simcoe, put em all together and let Henry do the rest. Another really good IPA.

    Cheers,

Yup, all his beers are painstakingly crafted and as good as local/domestic brewed saisons get.

    Cheers,

Sorry. Not trying to argue or start something here. I know Monkish is one of LA's flagship brewery's. But I really didn't know how well they were liked in this community and their fans from the beginning. Today, they have doubled plus on the customers. This is a major turning point for them. Strategy? Or just the luck of the Monk?

    Sorry for typing Monk.

Hey guys. Visiting from NYC and would love to get some cans if possible. Heard great things about Monkish. If I got there at 9am would I be safe in getting cans? and what time would I be actually getting the brew? It's about a 50 minute drive from where I'm staying so I don't want to go there and leave empty handed. Appreciate any insight!

IMO Monkish is huge now because of the IPA's. Not sure if they were on the verge of shutting down, but they were never one of our major stops in the area. I think they realized they needed to go this route to get bigger. Their stuff wasn't good enough to completely avoid going the IPA route, like the bruery. Whom ever chose to go the NE style IPA though, rather than a west coast style route over, deserves a huge promotion.

The lines wouldn't be the way they are for a west IPA. Yes HPB has long lines, but not lIke this. They have large turn outs because their west coast ipa's are out of this world.

9am should get you cans. Or at least have it on tap. I mean, You know, you'll at least be next to the Smogs, and the Phants as well as Beach W. to get great beer. Right DCgunman?

I'm just glad all these chairs are in line already and helping fund Monkish's AWA/sour program, 'cause that's where it's really at. I, like many others, tried their earliest Belgian-inspired offerings and kinda wrote them off at first. But they changed that around long before the canned IPA hype started up and they were making amazing beers (like Haiku) that had absolutely no hype whatsoever for a long time. One of the best breweries in LA, for sure. The thing that's mind-blowing is how quickly they overshadowed Smog as the South Bay brewery to go to. Or even LA as a whole.

As good as the IPAs I've had from them are, there is absolutely no sane reason to be spending that much time in a line for an IPA in Southern California unless you have literally no life outside of dem #straightjuice #bosspours and raking in likes from random dudes on the 'gram. I go to school full time and work full time, I'm lucky if I can even manage to squeeze in drinking any beer these days as it is...

Also, first post? Hi BA

Right now Amalgamator is spot on. Got bottles and growler fills. Can't go wrong. ESBC has Wayward IPA on. Their attempt on a hazy NE style ipa. Noble just tap another hazed ipa. Grand Slam Dunk. Not sure on fills. You should be fine at nine.

thanks for the info. I love how local beer has become but I have no idea where to get started when i go some place new. Where am i best off getting the fresh local IPAs in LA. Bottle shops, breweries?

I brought some cans of Grimm and Bissell Brothers, two great east coast breweries. Happy to share them if that kind of thing goes down at releases (discretely of course).

Fwiw, they started brewing funky beers well before they made any IPA, hired staff (for the first year and a half it was just Henry and Adriana), and bought a shit ton of new equipment. From all outward appearances, there was no threat of them going out of business. I'd say they started getting popular about a year ago

Monkish is obviously huge now because of the NE IPAs, but their saisons were extremely high quality before others started to learn who Monkish was. It was great to be able to stock up on their releases without every worrying about hype, but I'm happy to see Monkish gain the popularity they have rightfully deserved. As far as selecting the style of IPA, Henry spent over a year researching the NE IPA style and working to perfect it prior to Monkish launching their IPAs. People love to act like Other Half taught them everything, but Henry was learning everything he could and figuring out how to brew the style long before they sat down to collaborate.

Amalgamator and Melrose are both tasting amazing right now. Now is a great time to go visit Beachwood and stock up on bottles

I broke out another Melrose last night and had a "fuck the East Coast" moment. I kind of felt like I could relate to catchy name, and snoop dogg (Long Beach!)

I enjoy trying all these North East style IPAs, but West Coast IPAs are never going anywhere. West is the best

Second that with @Black_Rider. It's nice to have all the NE styles to drink. But West is still the Best!
