I'm headed up there next weekend I believe and am thinking about maybe getting a mix half case, so like 12 mixed bottles: Pliny, Blind Big, Supplication etc. And maybe a growler of something.

Should I fill it with one of their non bottled beers, something special perhaps they may be releasing this week or maybe just load up on the supplication?

    what do you guys think?

Also, is the selection better/ cheaper at the Bottle Barn?

Now, I haven't been to RR, but I've been told that the bottles are cheaper at Bottle Barn. I'm not sure about the selection though.

I just went this summer and sent back a mixed case (wine shipper stuffed with newspaper) sent it Fed-ex and it was cheaper then I thought. I also told them it was wine (there were a few wine bottles in one case) no problem just 21+ to sign at delivery.

Get your RR from the brewery, Bottle Barns RR selection was pretty limited when I went, and the Pliny was way fresher at the brewery. I did however bring back some Ale Smith Speedway Stout from Bottle Barn and it was outstanding! I suggest bringing some of this back if not available in your area.

If you like sours Sanctification is great as are Consecration and Supplication. They have Temptation now which they did not have when I was there, but is one of their beers I really, really wanted to try. Pliny is great, the wife and I both preferred it out of the bottle for some reason and the bottles are$5 both at BB and RR. I don't think they do growler fills of everything, but I could be wrong. Sample what you want (they actually do tasters of everything on tap) and bring back what you like.

I also highly recommend going to City Beer in San Fran. if you are going to the city great beer selection and atmosphere. RR can get really crowded, we went three times when we were in the area and particularly after 5 it is jammed. Their pizza is good too, and I was a big fan of Row 2 Hill 56 if its on tap try it.

This is what we brought back from RR- 4-Pliny 4-Sanctification 3-Consecration 2-Supplication 1-Damnation.

    Have a great trip!

The Hill 56 Row 2 brewed with Simcoe hops was fantastic. Not sure if the next batch is out yet showcasing a different hop.

Bottles of Pliny and Blind Pig are $4 at Bottle Barn and $5 at Rusian River. Bottle Barn usually has fresher bottles as well. The selection of sours at BB may be limited but are cheaper as well. I would hit BB first to see what they have and then finish shopping at RR.

All good recommendations here. I'll just add one thing about the bottle barn selection.

Prices are better at the Bottle Barn... I think bottles of pliny were roughly a buck cheaper a bottle than at the brewpub. However, they don't always have it in stock (most of the time they do, but the beer is popular and on occassion they run out), so call in advance if you plan to stop by there (for Pliny). As for freshness, if that's an issue, then absolutely buy at the brewpub. Last time I purchased Pliny at the BB, I think the beer was a couple of weeks older than what was currently available at the brewpub. That was still plenty fresh enough for me, but if your fanatical about the freshness of your pliny, then you should obtain it at the brewpub. Cheers and have fun.

Yes, bottles are cheaper at Bottle Barn.

Get a growler of Row 2, it's much better on tap. If they don't have that, I'd reccomend a growler of Perdition.

If you go on a Sunday, you'll probably see me there. It's hard to pass up their all day happy hour.

    Have fun!

Freshness can be hit or miss at both. I once bought a bottle at the brewery that was about a week old, then went to Bottle Barn and they had bottles that were 3 days old. It's hard to tell what you'll get as far as bottling date, but you won't get anything that's older than 8-10 days at either place.

Email Bottle Barn and see if they have anything your looking for in-stock. I've called before and they set aside half a case of Parabola without charging me. Good luck neighbor!

...What? Row 2 is always brewed with Simcoe. There are other beers made with other hops (Happy Hops and Segal Select IIRC) but Row 2 is always Simcoe.

Is this a scavenger hunt? Why are you asking other people about what beer you will like?

If you're hanging out for the day, drink the tap-only stuff, obviously. The porter is fantastic. Worth getting a growler if you can otherwise get bottles. Supplication is always a good idea, though.

They do growler fills of just about everything except the sour beers, PtY, and the just-ran-out fresh hop ale. I think it runs $14 for a refill, $20 including the growler itself. BB is cheaper but the bottle prices at RRBC do include tax and crv fwiw.

I was there on Sunday and the waiter told me that there were no growler fills for this last batch of Row 2, it was too small of a batch. It was worth getting a few pints though!

it is common for people on ba to ask others to do their work for them. see "here's a list: what beer should i open next???" and "can you save me the trouble of scrolling down and tell me what places to visit in san diego???"
