Autumn Beer Review 2016

There was a lot of fun new stuff. The usuals were good (as expected). Fun to have BG and VR. My big surprises were disgruntled living up to the recent attention it's been getting, the stellar SMaSH beer from spilled grain, surprisingly good offerings from door county, and the bad weather IPA.

 

Great fest! Best beers black gold, sours from forager, vanilla rye, ba silhouette
some disappointments: DM Ba Imperial pumpkin ale, Cask of vanilla darkness, barrel aged 10

Overall a great fest and a ton of great beers that all lasted a good amount of time

 

Vanilla Oak Aged Darkness was a major let down for me. Had multiple pours of Black Gold plus I drank my share of Disgruntled Stupid Good and Brunch Stout, both excellent! Lots of good beers with little to no lines.

 

So I realized today that my glass didn't make it back home with me last night. Anyone know where I could get another one or anyone willing to part with theirs? I'd be willing to try and make it worth someone's while.

 

I'd give mine up for something if you're still looking.

 

Last night, I found a Dangerous Man crowler in my fridge that I don't remember buying. Post ABR me is a genius.

 

You're my Bizarro. Post-ABR me is usually wildly unpredictable and can't be safely contained.

 

Was there a Best Beer awarded?

 

I saw a tweet from Fair State saying that Frontenac won best beer. I can't argue with that; it was delicious!

 

Damn, gonna have to get a bottle this week if it beat out Vanilla rye, black gold, DSDB, Forager sours, BA silhouette 2015 and 2016, etc!

 

Fair state, 10K and Forager tied for best brewery, Fair State for best beer with Frontenac, and Indeed for best booth.

 

10K? Didn't they only bring two beers?

 

10k. Um, okay...

 

The breweries were listed in alphabetical order in the app and 10K was first. I am guessing it was people figuring out the app that voted for them. I honestly have no idea who takes the time to cast a vote at the end of beer festivals.

 

They should do away with the voting altogether. There has never been any integrity.

 

But then what does Barley John's get to hang their hat on?
