Alchemist beers: drink from the can?

I think you can drink any beer either way - from the can or from the glass... I regularly do the pour half, drink half from the can thing too.

On the other hand I do disagree with decanting off the clear stuff and leaving behind the haze on the hazy iPas, a lot of the flavor comes from the interactions between the hops and yeast during fermentation, or the yeast itself, both of which are going to be found in the hazy part.

But to each his own.

 

Their beers are hard for me to get so when I do land one of them its going in a glass!

Fill up my glass and whatever I cannot fit in the glass gets drank out of the can while the head settles on the glass (I pour hard). It works for me...

 

Drinking from the can is just silly if you are at home. Just because a brewer says to do something doesn't mean they are right. They are brewers, not rocket scientists.

 

Can, glass, bowl, sippy cup...I personally don't care. Its The Alchemist and its good. As long as its fresh and you enjoy it who cares. Although I do typically drink from the can since that is what they recommend. Enjoy!

 

I'm the opposite, I prefer it from the can. When I want a whiff I stick my nose in the can, I can't prove much but I swear exposing the glass to a pour and then the oxygen fairly quickly mutes the smell.

 

Being it's your first time for all three, go for the glass because otherwise you'll miss out on the visual and the full aromatic experience. (!!!!!!)

 

Just curious if all the folks who say drink Heady from the can drink all their canned beers from the can too? Or does this drinking from the can is better thing only work for Heady/Alchemist?

 

Yes, I drink just about all canned beer from the can. Every bit as enjoyable as drinking out of a glass without the cleanup. Bottles are, of course, a different story. The physics of drinking out of a bottle makes it less enjoyable than drinking out of a glass, so into the glass it goes.

 

Hmmm, exactly what are the physics that makes drinking from the can superior? Oh wait, you only said it was equal, not superior. So, to you the only advantage to a can is no cleanup? I guess than you take issue with JK and others who say it is superior taste and aroma from can?

Not trying to start a fight, I agree the taste is exactly the same from the can, it is the aroma that lacks for me. Someone suggested sticking ones nose into the can to get aroma, but I find it easier to just allow the aroma, which the pour awakened, to waft into my nose every time I raise glass to lips

 

Aroma is better from the can. Opening the can immediately starts the gush of aroma. The smaller area (vs a glass) from which the aroma comes concentrates the smell and makes for a great smelling experience.

 

I have had the exact opposite experience in every can of beer I have tried to drink from the can.

 

I don't know how you can open a can of Heady or Focal and not be just overwhelmed by the hop aroma emanating out of the can. Maybe you have only tried this with old or improperly stored cans.

I have some cans of Imperial Biscotti Break. Hop aroma is nonexistent. Is that a beer you would consider drinking from a can? Or do you only every drink from a glass?

 

I get aroma multiply. I get it when I open the can and it releases into the room. I get it when I pour into the glass and the aroma opens up and is released by the pour. I get it when I am drinking from the glass when my nose enters the space in the top of the glass as I consume. Maybe I am doing it wrong, but my mouth covers up the opening on a can when I drink from it, and I can't smell anything but vague and occasional whiffs of aluminum.

 

Same here. I get the benefits of both the input of aromas through the nose and the aromas being picked up through the inside of the mouth. Much prefer having both sources of nasal input.

Folks who depend only on the aromas picked up from the inside of the mouth are missing out since the two aroma detector systems give somewhat different results.

 

That's exactly my experience as well.

I also remember another article about John placing the message on the can as a bit of environmental awareness so that people wouldn't just pour and chuck away mindlessly or something to that effect

 

I take two sips from the can and then pour in a glass. I like seeing what I am drinking, kind of like sex with the lights on
