No interest in outing anyone at this stage, but at what point do you generally determine that the trade is agreed upon? I feel swarmy even posting this, but here goes.

This all goes down in about 30 minutes:

    My post (~10:15PM): https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/updated-iso-fo-ft-dragontrax-list.450719/

    Person A:
would do Cookies + Vanilla Night Fury for FO. I would add locals to make up $4$

    Me:
Plus [XX state] locals! Sounds fair to me.

    Person A:
    You got it.

    Me:
I ask "not that it's a deal breaker, but is FO batch 2?"
I also share the limits and dollar amounts of the witch's hat beers so he knows what I paid.
I send my shipping info and say I can get package out Wednesday AM.
I edit my post to remove spoken for beers.
    I send trade request.

    Person A (11PM):
    B2

    ...crickets....

Me (5PM next day, so 18 hours later):
If you send me your info, I can get the package ready.

    ...crickets....

    A couple of additional details:
    • Person A has been active on the site and has viewed the messages
    • Person A has had previous and recent FT posts involving FO
    • I sent a trade request at 11PM on the day of my original post, but trade request has not been accepted.
    • Person A has a lot of trades and great feedback, so I would give the benefit of the doubt.

Practically speaking, it seems like the trader might be entertaining other offers for FO. But that is okay now right? Or the trader was turned off by the $ amount I spent on the witch's hat beers (It was still more than FO). Also, he/she has not accepted my trade offer, so maybe this is all fair game. Still, I feel like we agreed in principle.

What's the sentiment here? It hasn't yet been 24 hours, so just wait it out a bit?

Not a completed trade, nor a bad trader. Just a jerk.

Radio silence has become an increasingly popular way to bow out of trades for <insert the reason of your choice>. A trade isn't finalized until the trade is accepted by both sides, so there isn't (nor has there ever been) any recourse for this kind of stupid nonsense.

Really your only options are to try to pester the person into a trade or just to move on. I choose to do the latter, add the person to my sh*t list, & try to find a better human being/trader to deal with. Good luck.

Thanks, appreciate the input. I probably should have said "trade agreement" instead of completed trade in the title....

Anyway yeah, I've certainly had situations when people have gone non-responsive, but it has almost always been before we settled on the exchange. (i.e. "would you take X + Y for your Z?" and then nothing).

I've never had someone go non-responsive this late in the "deal". And it seems to sort of be in this grey area between feigning interest (which is increasingly common) and a non-followed up on trade agreement. I guess some people know how to play the game and toe the line.

Basically, this sounds like he is looking for a "better deal" which sucks...that is why I really dont like the new rules of trading here..stuff like this happens way to frequently...But it comes down to one thing..he did not accept the trade..So he is being a jerk ignoring you..

Not to be too cynical here, but you will probably just eventually get a message with some kind of excuse in a day or so. Then this trader will have an open trade with someone else, bc he found another deal he liked better. Just a guess.
It is pretty frustrating but unfortunately it happens.

Technically an accepted trade is where a formal trade request has been sent out and is accepted. Not so technically, if addresses were exchanged although not accepted in terms of the trading system some (myself included) would consider backing out after addresses exchanged to be a dick move. This situation is short of either of these, either he will get back to you or he has already moved on. But what he did is a dick move.

Actually, in my experience - this is typical.

I would say this happens more than 50% of the time, whether new or veteran traders. Both here on BA & Reddit.

That kinda stinks. I haven't done many trades recently, but this behavior was extremely infrequent when I was every active (Summer 2013 through Spring 2016 with 230 trades logged). I definitely saw it more later on, but usually from a new trader.

I basically keep track of these traders mentally and avoid trading with them in the future. I usually smirk when I see a trade they subsequently posted and reposted that I can completely help them with, but won't. There's karma to everything you do directly or indirectly, especially being a dick to people, bad trader label or not.

    Thanks for the input folks.

I had a hard time finding something quite like this in the trade forums, so thought it would be a good thing to have for educational purposes.

Turns out the trader's explanation was that he only had one bottle left and didn't want to trade it away. He was anticipating getting another bottle through a trade (which he could then send to me), but that apparently fell through.

    Good story

That is bullshit. Why would you trade for a bottle and trade it away at the same time?

I thought of this old thread because I just had it hapen to me.

Responded to a ISO post with one of the bottles the trader (for purposes of this post we will call him beerwelcher) was looking for. The beer for trade was Kane 5th. Beerwelcher was looking for a Bruery PB&Thursday.

On Friday we agreed to the deal. Because we were both in NJ we agreed to an IP trade. Beerwelcher posted this:
"Yeah that would be great man. This is definite? I am going to end another potential trade for this. -BW"
    My response:
    "Consider it done.
Here is my info" we exchanged cell numbers and I sent a trade request.

    Today I got this message:
"Hey man, I decided I am going to hang onto the Fifth for now, I am sorry. Happy holidays to you."
He left the conversation and apparently declined the trade request.

I wouldn't trade with this guy again anyway. But am I wrong in thinking I had a done deal?

If I was the guy on the other end, I'd never do something of that kind. I'd say you had a done deal most certainly.

That sucks. It's one thing to pull out at the 11th hour, but for an IP trade even?!

In principle, seems like a done deal. But in practice, at least around here, until the trade is accepted, it always leaves the window open for someone to back out.

At least that is the interpretation I have received from the community. Bottom line is that it's someone I would never entertain a message from in the future.

Sounds like a dick to me. Or rather, sounds like someone who was iso one thing but hoping to get something better and maybe did, so they backed out. Or they were just fishing and never actually wanted to trade in the first place. Either way, an easy DNT for me in the future.
