I can't answer why HB is one of the breweries that continues to follow the "green bottle marketing mystique," but I can tell you that I've had success with a vigorous pour dissipating skunky odors from a beer.

I've had a couple six-packs of the HB Fest over the season (was one of the first I saw) and have been lucky enough to avoid any skunking. Surprising that your retailer has had the beer so exposed.

Back when HB first came to this area I'd only buy their bottles in the sealed cases. With no light to get in, those bottles tasted pretty close to what you'd get in Munich. Most stores have backed off selling by the case (and I don't have that much room) so I haven't bought much from them lately.

My wife picked it up at the local grocery store where the beer is part of a display out in the open.

Anyone see the HB .5 liter brown bottles? I have one retailer who has the Original and the Weizen, but nothing else. I used to buy the Maibock and Fest (maybe even the Dunkel) in those bottles all the time about 10 years ago.

Agree on the vigorous pour method, it seems to help.
All the half liter bottles come in brown glass too, so not sure why the 33s would be put in green.
I regularly see the original in both formats, but luckily I've only seen the half liter oktoberfestbier in Italy.

    No skunk!
Lucked out and found a pallet of cases on sale in the beer section of a supermarket. €1,30/bottle, not exactly German prices, but I'll take it.

My local monopoly store only has the Löwenbräu Oktoberfestbier of the three Munich variants on offer this year (the three being Löwenbräu, Spaten and Hofbräu, Paulaner wasn't available this year for some reason), this means that I've been drinking more bottles of the Löwenbräu compared with the other two beers. It also means that I've been able to drink the Löwenbräu on its own and compare it against the competition at lenght, and I've come to appreciate it a great deal. While the sweetness of the beer struck me initially, having it a few weeks in a row the hop flavors of this beer are really starting to carry through. The beer doesn't come across as overly sweet anymore, instead it comes across as full flavored and hop accented, whilst being supremely clean and fresh tasting. I feel as though the Löwenbräu combines maltiness and hoppiness in a way that wins in the long run. Personally I might prefer a slightly drier taste whilst keeping the hop flavors, but I can't deny the quality which I'm tasting here. It truly offers a quality festbier experience.

Bought a six pack of Paulaner Oktoberfest because the store next to me had it for a reasonable price on offer and I really liked it last year.
This year, not so much. It still is tasty. But last year's offering was just so amazingly clean and drinkable. Now it is a tad more alcoholic and cloying for my taste..

can anybody tell me if the Ayinger Kirtabier & Oktoberfest-Märzen are one and the same beer?
I was curious, because the abv is the same and Ayinger is doing this with other Beers (Celebrator & Winter Bock)

I was at the Ayinger brewery last week. Same ABV. OG is 13.5 Plato for the Märzen and 13.8 Plato for the Kirtabier.

Going to buy an Ayinger Oktoberfest here in the US and do a wise by side with on of the Kirtabiers we brought back.

Isn't the Kirtabier unfiltered? I think that's on their web site.

We went to Oktoberfest in St. Charles, Missouri last night. Great festival. Several large tents, German music and good German beer on tap. We had Spaten Oktoberfest, Hofbrau Oktoberfest, Hofbrau Dunkel and Warsteiner Oktoberfest. They also had Paulaner and Leinekugel's Oktoberfests plus another eight German beers on tap! It was the first time we've been to this fest in many years and were surprised how much it has grown. We'll be back next year (and maybe tomorrow).[IMG] [IMG]

Got my hands on some Augustiner Oktoberfestbier today. 6.3% alcohol, compared with 6.0% in years past.
Anyone else here had this year's version? Notice anything different about it?

Haven't had any yet, but I imagine it'll taste just like it did last year and the year before that and the year before that...

Wow. I am not new to Schneider precisely but this one exudes class in all departments. Does it count as Oktöberfest?

The image link is broken to me so I can just assume that you're talking about the recently re-labeled Festweisse, which is the same beer as the Edel-Weisse, or Mein Grünes, as it was also called. It is, indeed, getting somewhat confusing by now.

Great beer though, but based on the all-year availability and its schizofrenic identity - I don't think it really counts

Festweisse indeed, which i´ve linked to Edel-Weisse in the ratings after having it. Didn´t know about Mein Grünes also being the same beer though; i´ve had it before and really liked it but this time Tap 4 really clicked on me...

I don´t know about the link, i am using One Drive this time and i can see it clearly. :slight_frown:

Regarding the image, It might just be some problem on my end. Though it is the only one that doesn't work...

And I've had similar experiences with Tap 4 as well, sometimes it really clicks, works brilliantly for me, and other times it's "just" a really good beer.

It's one of my favourites to revisit because of it.

I remember Mein Grünes almost into Hopweizen territory, and maybe not this enjoyable at the time, but now the slight Cascade floral/ginger touch really worked well along the brand´s classic spiciness and lemon without losing any of the typical weisse character. Wheat is also big and a main character in its doughiness, so Tap 4 really hits all the marks with big notes. It just clicked this time, the relative randomness of it all being a fundamental part of our experiences, i agree. Yet a bad beer won´t ever get there...

Picture is average but will try again.
