I'm with THANATOPSIS on the quality of TG brews being a notch ahead of the rest of the Midwest. My first thought when I tasted Navaja was to benchmark it against TG stuff (and it's right there).

That said, I'm totally in line with SeanBond as far as not being overly concerned about whether they ever come to Chicago because of how much good stuff is here already, not to mention the zoo it would be if they ever did.

Navaja is the best hoppy beer Chicago has to offer at the moment.

Yeah, someone mentioned this earlier. I'm thinking seriously about going, since that's a nice area of the city, and obviously the beer will be great.

If you've never had King Sue, I would definitely go. It's one of the best IPAs I've had outside of stuff from Tree House.

I've had it, but not enough, and I'd definitely like to try it again so that I can give it a proper ranking in the pantheon of citra beers.

This is an interesting perspective and I appreciate your comment. You seem to have a real grasp on the current Chicago beer scene.

I am wondering what you think of Juicy and Galaxy Bowl as they are probably the best local NE Style IPAs.

Thanks! I try to keep abreast of everything. I'll review them when I get a chance, and I'm very much looking forward to it.

Had King Sue for the first time yesterday... my first thought was "NE IPA"!!

It's hazy & very fruit/citrus forward; it had a hint more bite/bitterness than a true NE but I'd imagine you'd like it a lot.

    Most importantly, it was delicious!

Yeah, I've only had it once and wasn't absolutely blown away, but A) it was very good and B) I'd been drinking other heavier stuff before, so I can't be certain my palate was entirely on point.

I'm going to that "Making a Beer Run" event on Saturday, mentioned earlier in this thread:

Hopefully I'll be able to give my revised thoughts on King then.

What do you suspect the mystery beer will be?

Did they mention a "mystery beer" somewhere? The only thing I'm aware of is King Sue.

Interesting - I had only heard about PseudoSue and King Sue. I'm sure the mystery beer will be Term Oil, Morning Delight or Assassin. Of course, I'll pass on all those because I'll be too busy drinking Prop 14 from Goose Island. :grinning:

Damn, coulda saved $10! (edit: it was posted yesterday, so I guess I'd never have found it before buying tix) Nice find. No idea what that mystery will be.

Probably 16 oz. pours of Assassin. :stuck_out_tongue:

    Great minds!

Bells and Founder will be there, so you know what that means--Unlimited pours of Black Note and CBS!

*gets to fest, it's all IPAs*

This is pretty much what I'm expecting, which isn't so bad. I could be pretty happy drinking King Sue (even though I've never had it) and PseudoSue all afternoon. And that's before you even get to things like Two Hearted, OMG, etc For a relatively low entry fee, that's not too shabby.

I'm really not criticizing. I'd love a "whale" mystery beer, but I'm going for the King Sue, mostly. I've only had canned PS, so I'm looking forward to having that on tap, too (since I've been told it's so much better).

Also, we get $20 of beer money with the ticket, so I'm perfectly happy with the price of admission.

If they did bring a whale, I'd expect it to be a 1/6 barrel and to be gone in a flash. If it is just another seasonal hoppy ipa you still win.

They had SumoSue (Mosaic King Sue) at the Mornin Delight Event. Could have saved some. Just a guess.
