Just had a Stratus and it underwhelmed. Preferred Cumulus much more but glad Hailstorm is taking steps forward with this style.

I wonder if people in London where getting all bent out of shape when the "west coast" style up became a thing and where complaining, "Its just a bloody Boddington with my piney hops"

Hubbard's Cave Fresh IIPA V4 hit today (bottled today too). I'm happy to say that it's both delicious and has none of the carbonation issues V1 had last batch. As usual, mosaic is a great choice here, and it seems like the bitterness is slightly dialed back, as well. Very happy with this purchase, especially at $10.99 for a 750.

Can someone explain why Hubbards and Une Annee are separate entities? Does he have different investors for each and thus had to keep them separate? I would think name recognition for a fledgling brewery is important and thus dividing forces seems to water down that.

I'm watching the debate, so I'm too lazy to google, but it was my understanding that Une Annee does more Belgian-style beers, and Hubbard's Cave was started so the head brewer could do his own projects (more Americanized adjunct stouts, these fresh IPAs, etc.).

Honestly, if they keep up the quality in Fresh IIPA, I could see Une Annee needing Hubbard's name (but I agree that at this point the dividing thing might not be the best).

So I'm drinking the Stratus and I can see what people were saying. Im shocked at how clear this is. There is no haze, it doesn't even look unfiltered? Its also much more bitter than expected. That being said, I actually like it as a DIPA. I'd drink it again.

Stratus is weirdly inconsistent, I've found. There seems to be...yeast, or sediment, or something, in most of my cans, but it required me pouring the entire thing in a glass at once to get it at all hazy. The first 8-12 oz. were entirely clear.

I drank a fresh Trillium can and Hubbard's Cave IIPA V4 tonight and I liked the Hubbard's Cave a lot better.

Great! Which Trillium did you compare it to?

I was waiting to hear if they fixed the carb issue. I'm gonna have to do a little side by side with some Mechler St (Trilliums mosaic hop ipa) I picked up a week ago.

Please let us know, out of curiosity. And yes, this one is perfectly perfectly carbonated, in my opinion. I may pick another one up later in the week, despite having too much fresh beer I should be drinking.
