By the time I got in line at 11:15AM people ahead of me were already going through for the second time. I agree with the general sentiment, I don't get the double and triple dipping. I overheard at least one person saying they were trading it for some east coast stuff ... who is trading for this??

I just don't think RAM has the setup or time to do that - they just wanted to keep the line moving (which they did a great job at). That being said, it would be nice if people could actually show self control and just grab the limit.

I think stamping hands would be an okay idea. Then you have those scrubbing them off to get back in. Maybe punch cards? Hand them out as people come in. Would be quicker and hold those accountable. But hey man. You'll have people forging cards just to double dip in no time. This is just the beer scene in general now.

I'm glad for Shaun and what he's doing to revive a chain brewery/restaurant and put them on the craft beer map. Next time I'll need to show up at 9:30 am like I did S'More Luv.

What good would punch cards be? They would just come back in and get a new card.

This morning made me realize that I need a new rain jacket before Dark Lord Day. I'm still damp. Who wants to give me some BCBS bombers for a 4-pack?! (Not serious)

Very, very true. Unless you create specific sessions with a limit on amount of cards given out.

You have to be some kind of maniac to spit wash a stamp off your hand to get more beer.

I have to give props to Ram for this release though. My 2 buddies and I arrived and went in line around 11:30, we all had our allotment by around 11:45, and we were sitting at our table by noon. Line seemed to move fast. Certainly faster than the release prior, and this release had a lot more people. I hope all of their releases are this smooth going forward.

Got there at 11 and got 4 packs at 1130. Weather was awful in the warmer DLD sense of pouring rain. I got there at a dumb time as not many more arrived after me.

Was bummed the stout pours were gone by 1130 bi assumed I was more than set there. Had a couple of Juicy drafts and think it captures the NE style better than any other Chicagolanf beer

Got there around 11:00 and back to my car at 11:35. Really smooth operation. Look forward to the next release.

From what I read Tree house started doing permanent marker X on hands for their last rarer release (juice machine). They don't have a restaurant with soap and bathrooms but its really hard to wash off permanent marker.

One thing to consider - I don't think RAM and Shaun have ever said its not OK to double dip, which to me means they probably are OK with it.

Back to the brewery their trying to model this release - Tree House says you're not allowed but don't usually make a significant attempt to stop it. I think just saying it's not OK would take out a lot of people double dipping. If you say nothing people assume double dipping is OK (because it is I guess?) and the reason for the limit is just to make sure everyone there at open gets that limit

They may not be able to scan IDs, but marking hands sure would be easy (and not take up more time or money). I don't think we should ever expect self control out of people - it's up to the brewery how they want to model their release. In this instance, they were OK with people getting more than the "limit". As far as what's best for them, you obviously want to move product, but it seems like spreading your beer to more people would create more fans, as well as getting more people to spend money at the restaurant (i.e. if it were still available at 2 or 3, when the restaurant isn't busy, more people would be apt to stop in and spend some money at the restaurant). My buddy and I talked to Justin for a bit, and he said they're still trying to figure out how to handle the double/triple dipping, and they weren't really expecting this turnout (which I'm a bit skeptical of considering they are on social media).

In the end, I'm at least glad I got to try it on tap to determine what I think of it.

I think there's a pretty strong argument to be made that they should have a limit. How many people were thinking of swinging by today and either A. got shut out or B. heard it was sold out quickly so didn't bother. Sure they sold out, but having a broader base of people trying your beer grows your fan base.

see thats where you are wrong. They'll actually probably grow just as much through the hype of hearing it sold out so fast and that lots of people are bummed that they missed out.

Has anyone had both the draft and can versions today who can compare them? I loved what I had on draft

I don't know that you can say he's wrong. You certainly have an aspect to consider, but I think that getting good product (in this case, beer) in the hands of more people tends to be the way to go...but maybe that's an outdated view in the hyped up beer game.
