Chicagoland NE IPAs (2018)

Interesting - I was in Warehouse last Wednesday or Thursday and didn't see any. Perhaps I overlooked it.

I asked about Nimbus at Bottles & Cans yesterday, and they haven't received any of it, same with Lakeview Binny's. It's kinda strange how it's hit or miss on who even received it.

 

That was the Nimbus I saw in there last week when I was picking up my Fresh V4...I passed on it since it was that old. There is fresher Nimbus at some stores, isn't there?

 

Just saw Hop Butcher is canning a Galaxy NE IPA today. Galaxy Bowl looks/sounds promising.

Anyone had any luck scoring any of their cans? I've never seen them at Binny's on Grand (my local spot)...

 

You sure Grand hasn't had their cans before, when they were South Loop Brewing? I know I used to see their stuff in many places, so it seems strange Binny's Grand wouldn't have had it. I don't know that I've seen stuff since they've been Hop Butcher, though.

I'll plan on grabbing some of the Galaxy Bowl (assuming it's findable) to give it a shot and share some with my brother in MI this weekend.

 

10 cases of Galaxy Bowl hit Bottles & Cans. Met Jude, one of the brewer/owners...super nice guy!

 

Beer Cellar had 4 packs of Hop Butcher, 1 per. Gonna open a can tonight and have Thursty tomorrow. The guys at BC were very impressed with Galaxy so I'm excited for it

 

Just popped a Galaxy Bowl...to paraphrase the late Dennis Green, crown its ass!!

Peach, mango, apple & orange...almost no bitterness...opaque haze...in my opinion, this is the real deal.

 

Any idea how far distro reaches for this one?

So, just how long WERE you camped out at Bottles & Cans today?!

I just got back from B&C for some Galaxy Bowl. I didn't make a note to specifically count how much was left, but I'd guess 3 cases? The two people in the store before me both had a couple of 4-packs. It looks like this stuff will be going fast.

 

I went twice today. Lunch & after work.

Let me reiterate: I'm not proud.

 

You should be disgusted (says the guy who went to 4 beer stores today himself ).

 

Galaxy Bowl is right up there with Juicy. I'd give Juicy the slightest of an edge which is meant as high praise to both

I got Galaxy Bowl at Beer Cellar in Glenellyn. They had a 4-pack limit. Plenty left - they got it an hour or so before they closed. Excited to try it.

I decided to open a Galaxy Bowl tonight, and I was pretty impressed. Really nice juicy flavor, with a very good creamy body. From short term memory, I liked it better than Juicy, and from longer term, it may be better than any of the other hazy IPA's I've had.

Well, you made me feel better about myself - I didn't go to a brewery!

 

Our city finally got the style down. I looked in my fridge and saw Juicy, Mikerphone, HB, and HC V4. I was beginning to worry the style would fade here because of the hype:disappointment ratio. But now we're seeing local places make top notch versions
