Broz Night Out, Crucial Crucial Aunt Aunt, Haze, Julius, DDH Summer Street, Substance, Alien Church, High Road, and others. I'll take that Doppelganger though! :grinning:

That said, GB was absolutely fantastic and if anyone has an opportunity to grab it, do not hesitate.

Just did a little looking after work. No stores had any around Lincoln park-lake view area. Maybe some at Binnys next week?

I know this is off-topic, but it's a thread about Chicago beers, so fuck it - Based on the timestamp 29OCT15 1015, does anyone know if I'm drinking an infected BCBW? I'm drinking it now, but have never had one ever and can't really tell. It's kinda tasty, but it's also partially sour, at least on the nose. Thanks!

Having a Nimbus canned on 9/28; a definite upgrade over Stratus in my opinion. If you liked Cumulus you'll likely enjoy it. Solid B / B+ effort.

Compared to Galaxy Bowl it's basically horse piss, though.

Thanks for the insight. Having had Cumulus, Stratus and Nimbus (in that order), I ranked them from best to worst 1) Cumulus, 2) Nimbus and 3) Stratus. Even Stratus is a drinkable DIPA, but in my opinion it wasn't even close to being a NE style beer.

Took a pass on Galaxy Bowl this week. Got to drink through the backlog of stored imperial stouts so I'm ready for the next round of releases.

All 2015 Bourbon County Barley Wines are infected.... also given that it should be absolutely putrid by now, I'm surprised you have to ask.

That's my ranking of the Hailstorm NE IPAs as well.

I thought I preferred Stratus over Nimbus, but I have some of both in my fridge and will have to do a blind side by side next week. I thought I recall the Stratus having more body on the palate, but sometimes my memory sucks.

Had another one last night and it was much better. I think the carbonation just needed more time to dissolve into the beer. Still a little bit flat, but improving.

Yep, that was my experience as well. Stratus had more body to it than Nimbus, but I thought it was a bit too bitter, and my cans of Stratus had zero haze. Nimbus was more hazy and better balanced for me, though I thought it was thin on the finish. I think both beers need some work before they meet the NE style standard.

I had the GB last night. It lacks any bitterness to a fault imo. Its taste like juice or wort before a boil. Not my thing at all. I overall lobe this newer style. My ranking of what I've had thus far Trillium>HB4>Mikerphone>Cumulus>GB.

Amen to that. I don't mind trying new examples of the style. Prob wont revisit a lot that I've tried. I did like the cumulus tho.

It's not a NE IPA but I picked up Lazer Snake by FFF and it's really good

Took one for the team today and did a side by side of HB Galaxy Bowl and Transient's Obligatory. Despite my poor photography skills, they're actually better than my beer articulation skills, so I won't get too descriptive. Both are excellent examples of the "style" but I think I prefer GB due to its super soft mouthfeel and the peach hop flavor they were able to capture. Obligatory has a touch more bitterness, is a little more citrus-y, and has a more carbonated bite. It's interesting people commenting on the carbonation of GB because it had a heartier and longer lasting head than Obligatory (you could see it had started to dissipate before I could take the pic) but it does have sort of a cask beer type of feel when drinking. Either way, both are highly enjoyable and hopefully they'll be available with some consistency in the future.
