Feel guilty--both for initiating this thread two days running and for drinking so early, but infants torpedo sleeping patterns and I'm thirsty. This morning's beer is apropos, because son's middle name is Drago (after great grandfather), which translates to "precious" or "dear one" in Croatian, not "dragon," but whatever. Cheers.

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday! Been up early for a while, had a lot of laundry to do today. Last week someone was hogging all the machines literally all day Sunday, so I had to skip a week. Good thing I have unlimited work shirts haha. Got some work to do today from home; we had some escalated deadlines for Monday when I left work yesterday, so I have to double check some reports. Good thing I have a laptop.

    Beer this morning:

Amazing Gose as always. Flavors of big sour cherry, lemon, lime, green apple, wheat, cracker, coriander, sea salt, herbal, grass, and yeast earthiness. Nice sized fruity/lactic sour finish; balanced cherry/lacto acidity, salinity, and light grainy wheat creaminess in the mouthfeel. Highly drinkable despite higher acidity. I wish this was year round. So much fantastic sour cherry flavor for the low ABV. Down to my last 4 pack, but I can still grab some more in some places; and I will.

My go-to English styled American porter. Big robust and complex flavors of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, toast, brown sugar, brown bread, and light coffee/nuttiness; with restrained plum/apple English yeast fruitiness and light-moderate herbal hops. Balanced herbal/roast bitter finish; with an awesome creamy/silky mouthfeel. An all around incredible beer every single time, one of the best year round beers out there IMO. Just got a fresh 6 pack earlier this week. I should always have it around.

Awesome red IPA! Flavors of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, papaya, mango, orange peel, light pepper, and pine hops; with moderate caramel, honey, spicy rye, and toasted bready sweetness; with herbal, floral, and grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine/rind/spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied; sticky/resinous mouthfeel with some grainy creaminess; a touch of honey slickness. Light-moderate increasing resin dryness; no lingering hop astringency. Super juicy and pretty dank on the hop character. Feels like Simcoe, Citra, Amarillo, and Columbus; huge fan of this hop profile. Will definitely pick up again while it’s still around as a seasonal; we have plenty left.

This is insane! I got this from a friend recently. Flavors of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, coconut, vanilla, bourbon, toffee, toasted oak, tobacco, and charred grain; with some light raisin, cherry, fig, date fruit notes. Moderate char bitterness and bourbon/oak spice on the finish. Full bodied creamy/silky/slick mouthfeel; with some balancing sticky/chalky roast and barrel notes. Increasingly drying finish from spicy bourbon/oak. Very warming, but not all that boozy. Absolutely enormous on barrel flavors. Pretty much a perfect balance between pure bourbon and imperial stout. I've only had this one other time 2 years ago. Still just as amazing as I remember. Wow. I need to get another Sucaba soon, because that one is on my top 5 all time best beer list when I reviewed it.

    Cheers

Not usually a huge fan of pumpkin beers, but never had a BA rendition. I really like this, the barrel cuts the pumpkin flavor to a very desirable level.

After reading @BSiegs nice side-by-side, I was a little nostalgic for doing one myself. So I took his "lesser seasonal " and mimicked his vertical review:

Look: The '15 and '16 both grew the same size head atop their near black bodies, bot the 16 looked a little thicker, and definitely lasted a little longer.

Nose: The '15 has a nice roasty nature to it, but is balanced in that roast aroma being malt-based and coffee-based. The '16 has considerably more coffee aroma and is a little stronger overall. Sort of no surprise here.

Feel: The '15 has a light carbonation with a slightly more than medium body. The '16 is about the same, but a little smoother and a tad less dry.

Taste: Much like the nose, the '15 seems to have a little more bitterness from the roasted notes, and the specific coffee notes seem to be part of the roasted makeup. The '16 is a tad sweeter tasting, like a very lightly sweetened coffee. The '16 tastes more like an "adjusted beer" where if you just handed me the '15 - I'd probably assume it was a regular stout than one with coffee added.

I do believe the '15 was in the fridge for most of the year - at least for the last few months. I do have some '15 cellared, but it may be time to bring them out. I believe I like the newer version more - at least today that is true. Thanks @BSiegs for revitalizing my desire to do a side-by-side. Cheers, all!

Good morning BAs! It's a dark, rainy Saturday here in NW PA - I just felt some distant thunder - so I guess it's a good thing I mowed the yard yesterday. Mrs. Lizard and I were considering heading down to the Lancaster county/Bucks county area for a couple of days but it looks like I'm going to be helping my son with a bathroom project at his house for the next week instead. The joys of retirement - just sitting back and contemplating my next project and the one after that and the one after that and the one after that, ad infinitum.

    Today's New Beer Saturday brew:
