I wonder if those'll see distribution.

Prices are $18 for non-BA and $22 for the BA version of their 2nd anniversary imperial stout. Considering the Barleywine last year was $14 (non-BA) and $16 (BA), this is quite the price increase.

$18 is steep for a non-BA stout as well. Hopefully you can try before you buy, but that $18 isn't far off from getting nearly 3 Stone IRS bottles or a couple of four packs of founders imperial stout. There are few imperial stouts that can live up to those and at this price point I can only assume I will be disappointed.

IIRC, I paid $20 for Kane's ANTEAD last year. Seems more and more like a bargain.

    ANTEAD was $18 last year.

Ya know. Something kind of weird with Spellbound and their pricing. Cans are an absolute bargain at 35/case (12oz cans) but these bottle releases are at the upper threshold. Hope they turn out good, they'll sell out either way so I guess it doesn't much matter.

They had their 1st anniversary barleywine on tap (including variants ) for several months after the bottle release so I'm content with skipping the pricey bottle personally.

What surprises me most is the reaction here to Spellbound IPA. I absolutely love it and have drank more of it in the past year or so than any other beer. It's not mind blowing or innovative or anything but it's just a beautiful go-to. I have to ask people who find it lacks hop presence or is too malty: do you know for certain your pours were fresh? Ive found it does fall off pretty quickly , but a can fresh off the line has a spicy hop bite and is just super drinkable.

EDIT: Oh one last thing, they teased Peach DIPA cans on Instagram a while back and I've not heard anything since...anyone know anything about that? Seems out of season at this point...

So does anybody have an idea what kind of line will be generated for the second anniversary release this Saturday? I was hoping to drive down to pick up bottles of the anniversary stouts and maybe some cans, but I really don’t feel like putting up with a crowd of people honestly, especially not after going to the Kane anniversary last month. I doubt it would be that crazy, but I’m just trying to get an idea. I may end up just going to Carton to restock my Unjunct and Pumpkin Cream supplies…

Also, I agree, Spellbound is great. Even if they just brewed Pale, IPA and Porter, I'd still be plenty satisfied with their offerings. Great representations of the style, and some of the Porter variants are cool too.

That Pale Ale is fantastic, strongly tropical and dank (mj) , but put together with finesse. I was hoping to get some more when I pick up my son for Thanksgiving down near Exit 3. Are they releasing cans regularly? The last ones I got at Canals were from the summer.

There was a substantial line (nothing like Kane or other bigger releases however) last year for the barleywines so I would imagine there will be a line for the stouts as well but don't remember it being anything too terrible. I think I got there an hour or so before opening and don't remember it being a frustrating long wait I believe. You can try and press your luck and arrive like an hour after opening after the initial rush dies down and hopefully be in and out...that's what Im planning to do

The best way to convert someone is have them go to the brewery - their beers when poured fresh are so bright and refreshing it's crazy. Same with the cans right off the line. I agree they fall off pretty quick and they become more "average" but they're still so workhorse solid compared to so many beers out there. Total "every day drinkers" for the craft beer nerd, and available enough to be drinkable every day.

Also: I think if Spellbound beers had really clever names and fancy/weird packaging they'd actually be huge. But shhhh, the quality is our secret for now...

Thanks for this thread. I had not heard of them until reading this thread a week ago and went to check it out. Everything I tried was great, especially the Palo Santo Porter, and the cans were a great price. Hopefully that gets canned (again?) sometime soon as an excuse to go back!

The pale ale cans are about a month old but still very good. Definitely an ideal everyday drinking beer.

I assume they're going to sell out of the 400 allotments today? I'm thinking of taking a trip down there, but considering how far it is from me, I don't want to go if I'm not likely to score any bottles and its going to be super crowded.

I'd also be curious to know how the line is. I'm planning to go but can't get there until early afternoon. I assume it will sell out today but curious how fast.

I was just there and got allottment #297/400. People coming in but there wasn't a line - walked right up. Hope that helps.

Thanks - I should have posted. I got there at 1 on the dot and didn't wait in line - in fact, I coudn't find where bottle sales were because there was no line. I had the Mayan Cocoa Imperial Stout (very, very good), Pale Ale Dry Hopped With Citra and Mosaic (very good), Vices Coffee Porter (solid) and Gingerbread Brown Ale (solid) before I left. I thought it was run very well - light year's better than Kane's Anniversary albeit slightly less people.

I left and went to Village Idiot and was glad I did. Really awesome beers for a brewery that doesn't get nearly as much pub as they deserve!
