$22/four pack is still cheaper than if it were on draft inside Tired Hands. For some reason taking the time to package the beer in a can makes it cost less than the $7-$9 per pint you pay if you drink it on tap.

I didn't think you wanted to play the "what if" game.

There are lots of expensive things and some of them are overpriced. If I think something is overpriced then I don't buy it.

There's nothing to be gained by complaining about prices. Don't buy things that are overpriced and (if they are smart) the brewers will adjust their prices to whatever it can be while still selling their beer.

As far as Tired Hands goes, some of their beers are overpriced (Para47, Mago Tago, in my opinion) and others are very expensive but unique and high quality (Rustic Pentagram, some Milkshakes, Pineal).

I understand your point how these prices are driving overall craft beer prices. However, when people are ready to stand in line for few hours irrespective of the price (including me) its a seller market. All we can do is complain on our way to thus mentioned beer lines.

Me pesonally, I think at some point this current canning model will crack. People will get tired of standing in line and Ardmore will get tired of people standing in line snaking through their town just to buy cans of beer. Something has to give at some point, they can't go on doing this month after month, year after year. The big question is what will give or will TH ever expand to increase production to alleviate the current high demand low supply issue.

Yeah I mean what is it like when it's 30 degrees and dark at 5pm, do people still tough out hours in a line for beer?

In all fairness, they've been in business only 4 years with the Ferm only open for 18 months. They have been canning for about 9 months. I think you could say they have expanded considerably since they first opened the Brew Café.

I don't think people mind standing in line, otherwise there wouldn't be lines. The beer is worth the effort and wait to those that line up.

Me? I stood in line once, for Strawberry Milkshake. Every other time I went the night of after it hit the bar or I went the next day at Noon. I love the beer, but my time is better spent elsewhere most Wednesdays.

in all fairness anybody from a state that touches PA is fair game to show up at tired hands.. you should know that.

He's in Ohio. Not Delaware, New Jersey, or Maryland. I'm pretty sure he isn't driving 6 hours for beer.

Don't rule it out. It would not surprise me at all..used to be people from Cali standing in line.

I live on the OH PA border (4-4.5 hours away) and I have been to Tired Hands for cans, thank you.

Also, I simply said their cans are expensive. Especially how every Alchemist beer is 12.50 per four pack. Nothing to get all upset about, I was just making a pretty obvious observation.

So, never having been to a combined can/bottle release, are there likely to be 2 separate lines or 1 line for everything?

Not necessarily. I think there are some other factors to how these limited release beers (not just Tired Hands) are being rated on BA. Both are likely leading to over-inflation of ratings:

    1. Placebo effect - people are standing in line for $6 cans of beer, it must be great, right? Plus, no one wants to feel like a sucker. See studies on wine tasting: http://psychcentral.com/news/2015/05/03/placebo-effect-can-make-cheap-wine-taste-great/84151.html

    2. Trading - how much of these beers are being consumed vs. traded? Better rate that local beer high so you can trade it for those other hyped beers! (which ironically are probably also being overrated).

Oh believe me, I'm a big believer in hype impacting one's perception of a beer. My only point was that if a brewery wants to start charging $22/4 pack, it still has to be good for people to buy it. I think the hype comes into play more when determining if a beer is great versus really good, which is a whole other discussion.

I got to call a little bs or overexageration on this. Steubenville Ohio is about the closest SE Ohio city to PA. It's 332 miles to Ardmore. At 4 hours you are averaging 83 mph and at 4.5 hours you are averaging 74 mph. Averaging........probably can't happen figuring the slow poke from the PA turnpike down to Ardmore takes about 1/2 hour alone. I'm not saying you didn't get there, but you didn't get there that fast. Just observing.

How do you figure in the hype for trading factor here?

    Cheers!
