Just bring beer, you won't be alone for long!

I had a bourbon barrel de muerte a few weeks ago and it was amazing-although it may be heresy I think I enjoy the bourbon & brandy dark lords without the vanilla more.

Only ones I've tried so far are FVM (amazing) and Dwarven Power Bottom (way too sweet). Hoping for plain old BBA DL this year (doubt I get lucky enough for vanilla two years in a row).

Since I'm destined to never taste a vanilla DL, I appreciate your insight!

Vanilla and Muerte are pretty much the only ones I've preferred over the regular BBA (not including Pappy). Cognac and Brandy are close though. Had the cognac coffee had more coffee punch, it would be up there as well.

That vanilla though, you need to try it. Way too many brewers overuse vanilla in stouts these days to mask mediocre base beers. But it does something magical to DL.

Dude, I've tried! I was even Group A last year! If you remember, they fucked up the handling of the lines, so a bunch of Group A people got in after Group B. So basically, I was in Group A, got there in time for Group A, and ended up getting to purchase bottles after all the remaining vanilla was picked up by some Group B people.

No hate for the Group B people, but FFF fucked that one up royally, and I'm still pissed about (specifically for the reason you just stated).

I didn't say I would even think about trying to trade for it. I enjoy things like owning a house and a car.

I was unable to try the french vanilla variant but the 'regular' bourbon vanilla dark lord is tasty but very, very sweet. I found it a little overwhelming but I like the taste of bourbon more than vanilla so...It probably is still the best vanilla beer I have had, I will say that.

This is probably my only hesitation for the beer (I will definitely grab a bottle if/when I can, to try)--Many people have said that it's amazing but "you don't drink the bottle yourself, that's just too much." Well, I tend to drink everything myself, so if I can't get through the whole bottle (it was a struggle for regular Dark Lord 2016), that's a minus for me.

Fine, I'll "help you out" by drinking half of it.

I always find it a bit confusing that people complain about how sweet DL and its variants are but they also hate on Muerte when it's basically the only DL with an adjunct that cuts the sweetness.

To be fair I haven't had the cardamom variants but it doesn't sound like cardamom cuts the sweetness, or does anything positive whatsoever for that matter.

I haven't had the coffee variant either now that I think about it, I suppose that might help some as well.

Where's the best place to keep an eye out for their ticket sales? Will they do a thing where they announce a later time and site and we wait for that? I just "liked" their FB page and their Twitter.

Yes, they'll announce via social media, and it'll be posted on their 2017 DLD website once it is up and running.

I mean, regular DL has coffee in it, and we know how well that manifests itself/cuts down on sweetness. :stuck_out_tongue:

They will announce on 3Floyds Twitter, Dark Lord Day Twitter, and Facebook for sure. Usually the ticket sales will happen sometime around mid March, but with this year's change of the usual date of event from last Saturday in April to mid May, there is more of a question of when tIckets will be available.

Yeah, but we have no idea just how sweet it might be without the coffee. Can you even imagine how often people would be using the D word if it didn't have the coffee cutting it?

I had Temeculan 3000 at Mornin' Delight and it was truly awful. It's always fun to see a BA DL at a share but a few ounces of it was a chore
