Rhubarb + Doug Fir sounds so weird I may have to seek it out.

    Because Tree House. And Trillium.

Wait, $5 for a tallboy of Pilsner? Hahahaha.

That's where prices are headed to. With the amount of time a Pils has to spend in the tank, takes away the chance to brew other stuff.

I get that lagers are time intensive, but we're reaching $20/4 pack ridiculousness.

Now wait just one second. This isn't just any pilsner. It's a:

"$5 for 16oz, limited edition cans by in-house illustration ninja Jason Sturgill."

The folks at W & P seem fairly level headed and nice enough, but when I read something like this in their announcement post, the BS meter goes off pretty loudly.

I hear if you read a Wolves & People announcement with "They Live" sunglasses, you can see "FOMO" everywhere in huge, bold letters.

But yet people have no problem paying $5 for a pint on draft. Why should a can that created more work and money be cheaper?

Because when you buy a pint at a bar, you aren't just paying for the beer.

"Created more work"? Are you saying that the amount of work (number of people employed?) in the production of the $5 can of beer is greater than the amount of work created in the serving of a $5 pint at a bar?

(Edit: If I'm misunderstanding what you're saying, let me know. I'm genuinely interested in hearing what your position is.)

It takes more work and money to fill individual cans and bottles at a brewery than it does a keg. Also anything small is always priced more per ounce or weight than larger items. Just go to the grocery store to see that.

I'm willing to be persuaded on this issue, but from a consumer standpoint, this is how this appears to me.

I'm a big fan of pilsners, and I find it sad that there seem to be so few truly outstanding ones. In fact, at least to my palate, the best ones still seem to come from Germany (though there are some really good ones from Heater Allen, Chuckanut and Upright). Heater Allen seems to be able to somehow make a really good one that I can get for under $5 for a bomber, and I've yet to pay $5 for a 500 ML bottle of pils that has to be shipped nearly 10,000 miles from a brewery in Germany. So you'll excuse me if I'm a tad perplexed by what W&P is doing that requires them to charge what is the highest price I've ever seen for a domestic pils.

My general impression from my limited contact with the folks at W&P is that they didn't just fall of the onion truck yesterday, and so are well aware that the price tag on their new pils is likely to raise some eyebrows. Hence the need to remind everyone that these are "limited release" cans, and come with this really cool artwork.

In fact, cynic that I am, I've come to kind of expect this sort of nonsense from W&P whenever they're engaging in a pricey course of action that seems to make no sense to me.

It implies the poor, innocent farm boy, unfamiliar with the ways of the city, and trusting of everyone, gets taken advantage of at every opportunity. Someone who has been around for a while is said to have not just have fallen off the truck.

Yeah, I agree ... $5 for a 16 oz. can of pilsner seems ridiculous to me. I did however grab a couple of cans, because I'm that guy. I thought it was really good, but it would have had to really blow my mind for me to stop fixating on that price, which it did not.

However, I'm a big fan of La Truffe. Really has a nice creamy roastiness to it that goes great with the hazelnuts. Not too thin either. Great easy drinking stout at 4.5% ABV ... perfect to sip on all day while watching football with a storm going on outside.

Kinda curious to this as well. Haven't heard any updates on this at all. Or did I miss something? I contributed early on and I think I am promised 4 bottles at some point. Sent an email to Christian last month but didn't get a reply.

There is a release for cellar club members next month (date not specified yet, this is just from speaking to Christian) where the 2ea of all six cellar club bottles will be available for pick up.

Bottles can't be shipped to members directly due to legal requirements but they will work with your local bottle shop if you provide them the information and ship there. Keep emailing Christian, he's usually pretty good about responding.

As far as I can tell, last communication about cellar club bottles was Oct 11 and said they were hoping for thanksgiving week. That didn't happen but, not so surprising, haven't received any update.

I heard that Jake left Wolves and People for St Somewhere, and that it actually happened some time ago. Can anyone confirm this is true. And if so, who has been brewing?
