Not sure if I would count on this being the norm much longer.. Many businesses around Tired Hands (both locations) are getting very annoyed and irritated by lines. Word inside the Cafe on Sunday was many business owners impacted by TH lines are going to the township for some type of resolution. We'll see where this goes...

It is only a matter of time until the township shuts this down. It doesn't look good for the neighborhood when people are sitting outside of their cars drinking beer and doing other things.... plus filling up all of the local lots leaves no parking for other businesses... they have taken steps to help control where the line is, but if I were a local business I wouldn't be happy.... I do think they tried to cut down on the you have to get here early by clearly stating that barrel void would not kick any time early. They are being more proactive with the lines, it is a start, but still a lot of work to be done.

What are everyone thoughts on the ultimate solution? I feel like this issue comes up at a lot of breweries and the only one that I have seen solve it is Trillium. There solution was to just make a ton more beer. I assume Tired Hands is in the process of increasing capacity but I don't think there will be an mediate impact.

    Online presale?

Kane and Carton do silent releases and that seems to work pretty well. Obviously they don't have the level of hype that Tired Hands has. Also, Other Half canning 4 beers per release has definitely helped there.

I hope the township leans on them hard enough to get TH to shape up.

You can tell from the evolution of the line over this year how many new businesses and apartments keep complaining. TH is turning the line into a dotted line for now but we're still lining up past people's homes and I expect they don't appreciate it.

@tynian16 Great examples. It would be great if a comparable brewery followed Kane and Carton's model in this area. I think Tired Hands/Jean has too much of an ego to do so.

I agree that the township will probably do something, but the township is funded by taxes and as such I'm sure that Tired Hands has a lot more sway than that shoe repair store next door.

The other half solution just moves the problem to once ever 2 weeks. Unfortunately the hype train and lower capacity are making it difficult to go the way of trillium and carton. Would love to be able to walk in and just buy a 4 pack.... hopefully with their gradually increasing capacity and the new store coming in next to the cafe, things will improve.

I disagree with that on Other Half. Lots of people now know they don't have to line up to get Other Half beer because a bunch is typically still left in the afternoon. If all those people still thought they had to line up, the morning lines would be much worse than they are.

They have been pretty good for the area, Jean was saying that it took months to get permits to open the brew cafe and a few weeks to get permits for the fermentaria.... they have a good relationship with the township and have been working to help deal with line complaints from neighbors

Have never been to an OH release, but from reading their threads sounded like people were still lining up early. It is good to hear that that isn't the case as much anymore... means there is hope off TH releases... people are starting to realize that they can get there at 6 and still get beer with little wait

Curious, was it a newly purchased growler or an old one?

I'm not trying to say there are no lines at Other Half and if it's a hot collab then all bets are off. But for normal releases, I have strolled in at noon with no line and bought whatever I wanted.

Isn't TH planning a dispensary? From bits and pieces that I've gathered this a bulk storage/aging facility that sounds like it would be located in industrial like complex that wouldn't have issues with long lines. Anyone have more info on this?

From what I know the dispensary is basically a barrel storage and fermentation area that is not for the the public. They are opening a general store with a liquor license next door to the cafe

As far as the lines and the Township are concerned I think Tired Hands is in a unique situation. Other Half is near some residences but otherwise is pretty much just under a bridge next to industrial warehouses which makes sense rent wise. Tree house is nice obviously being out in the middle of nowhere and Trillium again at least at the canton location is in an industrial park and the increased capacity means it only gets crazy every now and then. Being in a small town with high density mixed residential and retail etc and not enough dedicated parking I could see how it would get frustrating when every week it swells to capacity of available parking and hundreds of people loitering. I think the only solution would be to stay the present course until capacity increases and a regular rotation is established like if we know every other week or once a month they will brew hophands and church then that might drop demand? Otherwise I guess just time? I just don't really see what the Township could do. Would be cool if other local businesses could cash in but we pretty much show up and clear out immediately upon buying the beer.

Other than that though I assume it's why Tired Hands chose Wednesday releases to intrude the least on local businesses.

So just to play devil's advocate a bit...for those of you who are so vehemently against people lining up a second time, do you feel as strongly about blatant mules?
