Had King Sue on draft at the Great Taste this year. Completely agree with your assessment. The beer is good, but not at all worth the hype that surrounds it. There are so many comparable double IPAs out in the wild that it's absolutely silly how much people try to track this one down.

I personally think it's great. A good number of Chicago IPAs are malt forward and their beers are not nearly as much. Also - the difference between canned and bomber pseudosue is significant:

As far as I know, the cans are/were still 9/20. I had some the other day and was a little disappointed, but I haven't had Sue in a few months. Wish they'd nail down the recipe for them because on tap and bombers, Sue is really really good. Sorry, I don't want this thread to turn into what the last TG thread did and argue about the Florida beer.

Wow! Those should be classified as two different beers. Looks like TG invented the NE style IPA based on the photos.

Wow, they stated that they only centrifuge the canned beer currently and not the bombers. They would like to centrifuge it all. If the flavor difference is that significant aren't they in essence creating an inferior product?

    To me yes. Weird.

Agreed on the tap part, was weird no one else had anything. Really appreciated that they were full pours of King Sue as well. It was kinda sad as Goose Island had pretty much no one at the booth even though they were the main beer sponsor and their patch is on the fleece.

This may be common knowledge, but with the TG brewery expansion, TG will stop canning beers in Florida once the contract ends. There may be an overlap where both Iowa and Florida are canning

That's pretty fantastic news. Maybe then we'll stop hearing complaints about the quality of canned Sue?

Nah, the old Iowa brewery's Sue was better than the new Iowa brewery's Sue. And both are better than the Florida Sue - that stuff was undrinkable. Drain pour all the way for me.

I made a trade a few weeks ago for some canned PS and a KS bomber. I was extremely underwhelmed with the cans of PS, which were only a week old. I gave up more than I wanted for two 4-packs of PS and the KS bomber, so it left a bad taste in my mouth (bad pun). It looked just like the picture of the canned PS that Chuckdiesel24 posted up there as well.

Don't get it twisted though, the King Sue was fantastic and I enjoyed every single sip of it. As for the PS, I live 1.3 miles from FFF so I'll keep picking up my weekly case of Zombie Dust over it...

Honestly, I have no issue with the cans (probably because I've never had the "good" stuff). They have a similar profile to (at least current) King Sue, in that both are very citra-forward and have a pronounced bitterness. I would imagine the "better" version of PS has a better body than the canned one, though, based on pics. Either way, I'm hoping for an upswing in quality.

For sure, and my opinion will definitely differ from a lot of others. I'd love to try a fresh bomber of PS, but honestly I still have 3 cans from that trade sitting in my fridge that have taken a back seat to my usual "hops lineup", I even through one of them in as an extra in a trade last week

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with your opinion, and it honestly sounds like the general consensus is that the PS cans are vastly inferior. I'm just saying I like them fine, so any improvement would make for a beer I'd really enjoy. But I'm a huge citra junkie, so I'm a little predisposed to love any IPA that features that hop.

I had King Sue for the first time yesterday - had a bomber of pseudo than a bomber of KS. Love the beer - it's very similar to Heady Topper to me and I'd love to do a side by side. Not exactly the same, but just as good. Hop explosion, thick mouthfeel, you can tell the bitterness is there but it's almost hidden by the hops.

It's not quite as good to me as the higher end of what Tree House puts out - which is a pretty different beer where you can't even taste the bitterness - but very close as far as overall enjoyment for me.

I was also underwhelmed by the PS. King Sue was amazing though.

Limited quantities...better get in line now.

Looking forward to buying some PseudoSue, and trying King Sue from bottle - only had that once, on tap, and wasn't a huge fan.
