'16 Bourbon County Lineup

I will never buy Goose Island ever again. Ever since they were bought, they don't care about the consumer.

 

I find comments like these interesting. If I'm correct, AB InBev bought them in 2011 (not sure when the deal closed, probably late 2011 or 2012). How different was it back pre-2011?

If they've been not caring about the consumer for 4-5 years, I'm surprised some folks stuck around buying their stuff for this long.

Chicago Tribune writer Josh Noel sampled and ranked all 4 versions of 2016 Bourbon County. Said "there isn't a clunker" in any of them, but also went onto describe 3 of them as have a "berry tartness" to them...regular BCBS included. I have NEVER gotten that flavor from regular BCBS in the past, so makes me wonder if there was a recipe change this year, a byproduct of the barrels used this year or if it has to do with the flash pasteurization?

Let's hope it's just his mouth hole being broken, as I'd be bummed to have a berry tartness to regular BCBS. Another thing he notes is that it is lacking the "vanilla" notes you usually get, which is an additional bummer.

 

It makes me wonder if he had a berry sundae earlier in the day. Or was going to have one after the tasting. That is a joke, but it doesn't worry me one bit. Everyone's palate and taste buds are different, so I can only judge for myself. I place more faith in GI based on their history of producing my favorite BBA stout as opposed to one writer. Nothing against Josh - I follow him on Twitter and enjoy his insight (minus the Cubs posts!), but I have no idea how my palate aligns to his, so I can't use his notes as a huge input.

 

I have been outspoken on the inbev buyout from the beginning...as in I was for the buyout...I thought it would bring more bourbon county stout with the same great quality into more individuals hands...but unfortunately, my support is waining

 

I'm interested to try my bottle and see if that is true, of course palates being what they are, etc etc etc...

 

Is Clybourn open to the general public (without a ticket) on Black Friday? If so, are the variants on tap?

I don't even see how it's possible that anyone got one they were gone so quick. What were they selling...1 ticket to each session? Oh well...I guess that means more family time for me that day.
