I'm excited for this. I have friends in OH that routinely stock their cabin that we borrow from time to time with Fat Heads hoppy stuff. That Hop Juju was damn tasty! Plus we are severely lacking in the true brew pup arena. Have to wonder if the plans include a production brewery to supply the SE or if all of that will stay in OH.

Does that mean SC will get their beer too?

Sweet! That is good news. Fat Head's is good stuff. Though, I wonder if this will impact whether or not Fat Head's starts distributing around here...

You would think that at LEAST the Charotte area would get full distribution. No word on if they will have an actual production brewery. The internet sleuths have not fully discovered where it will go (although there is a good educated guess out there) so no idea on size. The rumored building is 45k sf but no idea if they are taking it all or not but that is a good size building (NoDa's new brewery is 32k sf).

How does it work if say they want to self distribute here? Does the 25k bl limit apply to "all locations" or just here? If they have to use a distributor, then I would expect all of NC to be added.

Lots of questions, but since they said a deal is in place, I would assume details will emerge soon.

Fatheads has now become my favorite brewery. Everything they brew is excellent. Soon I will be able to pickup Head Hunter IPA and Hop Drop and Roll in one trip. Two of the best IPAs available in Charlotte. My only regret is that my son graduates this May from University of South Carolina. Maybe he can go for his Masters degree so I can still pass through Charlotte.

I would have to assume that they will model this after their Portland brewpub where they have a production facility as well and some leaks into distro.

They make a couple of very good IPA's, but it's a real headscratcher how anyone would consider them their "favorite brewery".

Another headscratcher is how do they get the money to open Fatheads in such spread out locations (Ohio, Oregon, NC, etc)?

Probably from being many peoples favorite brewery and the great Ohio To Oregon USD exchange rate.

What brewery do you suggest that should be Schultz favorite? Your post is the real head scratcher here.

I could probably name 100 breweries that have impressed me more than Fathead's, but I guess it's all matter of opinion. (That's not to say that Fathead's isn't a good brewery, They are. But there are many that are better, imo).

And their brewpub? Forget about it. The food of fatasses who consider quantity more important than quality.

I could counter with "Name me one outstanding beer that Fathead's makes that's a style other than IPA/DIPA?"

Perhaps the food will be different since it is a new place in a new market. Maybe they will roll out a awesome menu. The beer is great. Glad to see them coming. We welcome all comers.

A quick search here shows they have 82 beers rated 4 or higher...three of the top five are stouts or porters. And 44 of those non-ipa's. But of course it couldn't possibly be anyone's favorite (in your opinion).

And 60% of their beers are rated below a 4. Respectable, but hardly an indication of greatness.

Half of the 82 beers rated 4 or higher have less than 10 ratings. The three stouts you mention have 5,9, and 16 ratings. Those numbers are negligible for a brewery whose flagship has 4000+ ratings.

I consider Heist a brew pub and they're better than Fatheads...IMO...

    Who wants popcorn?

That *would* be cool if they did some kind of menu tailored to local and regional tastes. However, the Portland menu looks suspiciously similar to the Cleveland and Pittsburgh menus. And lord knows people in Portland don't have the same kind of diet as people in Cleveland.
