I didn't have Born Again Yesterday, and I agree, unless you took notes, I find it hard to believe anyone remembering nuances in a beer. Maybe my memory is just fading with old age...

Regardless, what I do NOT remember is this much fan fare for Born Again Yesterday...or even last year's Born Yesterday (although last year's seemd to go over well too, just not this well). Perhaps it's just because I didn't read the Born Again Yesterday thread, if there was one (I'm sure there was). Or maybe I did read it, and I forgot that too.

I didn't take notes, although I did consume a considerable amount of 2015 Born Yesterday over the course of a two month period. While I agree it can be difficult to draw on a specific memory of a beer consumed once or twice, I don't think it's a stretch for me to remember the nuances of beer I drank every weekend over the course of two months. The thing about memories is the ones that are most inspiring tend to stick around much more so than the ones that aren't. For me the 2015 Born Yesterday was very much an inspired beer, as is the 2016.

I had Born Again Yesterday on draft at Father's Office, while vacationing in LA with my wife. That was a pretty memorable trip for us. I can recall every inspiring meal on that trip. From our entire meal at Gjelina to the burger at Father's Office. My wife was also a big fan of the 2015 Born Yesterday. She doesn't really drink beer much, just takes random tastes from my glass and when she likes something she'll order one for herself or not really drink at all. My wife also has a much better memory than me. It's almost scary the amount of random stuff she retains (not particularly good for me at times lol). With that said, she wasn't really blown away by Born Again either. We both agreed that it lost some of the fruity hops aroma we loved in the Born Yesterday. I remember her sticking with Pliny that night. On the other hand, she's been all about the 2016 Born Yesterday. I wasn't expecting her to dig it this much.. Gonna have to find some more before it's all gone because we're running low already!

Can I ask where you got it or have seen it in NJ? Haven't seen it myself but would love to pick some up. Thanks in advance.

Shoprite Wine and Spirits in Caldwell NJ got only one case in last monday. That Tuesday I was able to score two sixpacks of it. I also know that Gary's Wine and Market place in Wayne was expecting to receive a delivery on Wednesday of last week but dont know how much and or if they still have it. Good luck trying to find it and find it fast, we are already on two weeks old .

If you think it lost it's aroma then you must have got a faded sample...Because quite honestly, it had the most fruity, tropical fruit aroma I've ever smelled. Of course I had it on tap and Lagunitas is about 15 minute drive from here....So this poses the question of how much good fresh hop beers fade overtime.

Super Buy Rite in Jersey City had it last week, but not out on the floor. Had to ask for it.

This beer has acomplished two things.

1.Has everyone forgetting about the annual SN Celebration hype!

2.Has been the first brewer from my own knowledge to bring to a national scale the closest IDEA of what is considered a New England IPA. And succeeded in doing so!

    Ill drink to that!

Not all that surprising, since Lagunitas was making juicy beer long before those became a thing.

Ok here ya go guys. Trillium Vicinity on the left, Lagunitas Born Yesterday on the right. Yes, Lagunitas just made a beer as hazy.

But how do they compare ?

Both are pretty juicy, but have a dank, earthy note too. More so dank and earthy with the Lagunitas, but both are equally juicy I would say. Very impressed.

I get heavy amounts of onion in both Gubna and Enjoy By, as well as a few other hoppy beers. Peak Organic IPA is a bit oniony to me, too, but then again, that beer actually does remind me of Enjoy By. I don't mind it, though, because I love onions.

Fresh raw onion is nice so I like beers that give me that flavor.

Onion is pretty much the most perfect vegetable there is. It's spicy when raw, it's a must-have on burgers, hot dogs, and pizza, it adds so much flavorful to almost every conceivable dish, and when you cook it, it gets sweet like candy.

Also, on topic, I'm drinking my first Born Yesterday of this year. Wow. The hype is real.

What did you think of Born Yesterday vs. Upstate DIPA? Or did that comparison not cross your mind?
It was the first thing I thought of when I opened a Born Yesterday.
I found them to be very similar in look, smell and taste, but I'd give the edge to Upstate.

Upstate will release their DIPA again next week I believe, so I'll be able to take a second look.
