Except Celebration is actually unique (these days anyway)...while good, Born Yesterday isn't different from the litany of juicy IPAs, except for the fact it was distributed nationally.

I had some Celebration Sunday after splitting a Born Yesterday (hazy edition, he wanted to try it so we split one). It was quite a refreshing change of pace, very piney this year, and always incredibly drinkable.

So would you consider Born yesterday to be a "New England" style pale ale/IPA?

Great fresh hop as always, fantastic way to close out the season every year.

I'd love to hear the story behind the two facilities making different choices during brewing.

I'm on a case/wk pace at this point. Is there some additional sort of "additive" in this to make it as drinkable as it is? lol

I have had beers very close to this using normal dry hops, so I know its possible. This has spring and summer drinking written all over it. Luckily NM has been unseasonably warm and I can still patio session this after work hours.

It's brightly citrus, fresh, and just very perky.. if that makes sense. My onion notes may be slightly off. There is this spicy edge that can be perceived how raw onions seem to taste (or as I remember). It's not exclusively a taste of onions but theres a certain spiciness or "heat"/bitterness.

Well played Lagunitas.. Crazy to not really read any sort of comments on their buyout awhile back and how supporting them is bad...This tells me... If BIG BEER can make an amazing product like this at a great price point, we aren't too judgemental.

Hasn't Bourbon County and its variants already proved this? I'm sure there were SOME negative comments at some point. But that was likely a combination of Goose Island being one of the first to be bought out (there's so many now, craft beer drinkers may be accustomed to it), the number of years Bourbon County has been released, and the volume of variants available each fall.

Regardless, people start multiple threads, line-up, and still go nuts for Bourbon County (especially the variants).

Yea me too, maybe it has to do with the market in question. Out here on the east people are going nuts looking for New England style IPA.

Is 10/17 the only bottling date?

    Love this beer.

Founder's HA is a better wet hop ale to my palate though

Lagunitas can really do no wrong in my book!

Just another plug for people to visit Washington and Oregon during hop harvest season. 98% of breweries out here do fresh hop beers and its glorious. Truly the most wonderful time of the year.

Personally, yes I would. I've had everything from Trillium and Tree House to Hoof Hearted, Tired Hands, Grimm, Other Half, etc and this definitely fits the mold pretty well.

That's a good question, and yes, the comparison actually did cross my mind. Honestly, I can't decide. They're different animals. I like the aroma and the hop profile of the Upstate DIPA better, but BY has more carbonation and a lighter body, which makes it more drinkable. I prefer the Upstate, but this year's BY is pretty close.

Except I'm in MA and I have both types of Born Yesterday. I believe some other members from MA posted they received the "less hazy" version as well.

And now that I think about it, perhaps there aren't actually two different types of beers, brewed two different ways. Perhaps the logistics of distributing this "New England-style" type of pale ale/IPA came into play. Storage conditions during travel...etc. may alter this beer. I have no facts to back this up, but it's definitely a possibility.

It's also likely the reason other large breweries haven't tried this, and why Lagunitas doesn't do this more often. The beer is too delicate.

I would just figure it's where in the tank your particular bottles came from ; due to settling , the top should be brighter than the bottom . The same sort of thing happened with Stone's Unfiltered Enjoy By .

How would the storage conditions during travel have any impact on the appearance of the beer?

While this is not what I was alluding to, it's yet another variable that may come into play when brewing larger batches that are nationally distributed.

This doesn't appear to be an issue with any Trillium beer I've come across.

I don't know. But I also don't necessarily know it doesn't either. What if the beer was exposed to warm temperatures during travel or at the store for extended periods of time. Warmer temperatures accelerate aging, maybe these beers are so delicate that even minimal amount of exposure could effect taste/appearance.

How many Trillium and Treehouse beers are sitting around unrefrigerated for one or more days?

Again, I'm not saying this does happen, simply that I don't think anyone really knows. This "style" is relatively new, and up until now it's been a local "style" only. I agree though, I wouldn't think any of these variables would effect the appearance of the beer, at least not acutely.

It's happened before with other small breweries , though , especially if they are using something like biofine . When it gets too close to the bottom of the tank you will see occasional chunky cans instead of mostly clear ones . They are usually on top of things so as not to let that happen , but sometimes stuff slips through .

Interesting. But do you think a larger brewery would "let stuff slip through"?

I'm not saying it can't happen, Goose Island had infected Bourbon County batches last year, (sort of an apples to oranges comparison considering the styles, but hopefully you get my point) but I imagine the probability is low.

No , I wouldn't say anything is slipping through in this case because it's presented as unfined and unfiltered . But there will naturally be some gradation of settlement in the tanks nonetheless .
