Rocky Mountain Water? That's putting it nicely...we used to call it Rocky Mountain Goat Piss when I was growing up.

didn't read this thread aside from the last page or two, so forgive if this has already been stated 15 times.

i think de struise figured it all out. they found the sweet spot between supply and demand. you can still log onto the webshop and buy bottles of the uber limited 5 squared at 100 euro a pop. they've been available for months. there you have it...high reviews, low bottle count, CRAZY price. if you want to pay it, you've got plenty of time to gobble it up.

aside from reselling beer being illegal, i think the major problem that most people have (myself included) is that resellers are simply exploiting the system. making money off of access. much like ticket scalpers...these folks are slimy and prey off of a fan's desire to participate in an experience. the original retailer is trying to provide an affordable product to a loyal customer base and the reseller gobbles it up and then takes a profit for being faster to get it...not for producing anything, but for being able to beat the system and get ahold of the product. captialist? you bet! slimy? you bet!

to me, it is sort of akin to your company saying, hey i can hire someone in india to do your job for half the price, so i'm going to fire you and outsource your job. capitalist? you bet! slimy? you bet! it is more of a question of ethics than anything else. you participate in a system/community, so why exploit it?

the only real solution to make everyone happy is for in demand breweries like Hill Farmstead to start selling their beers at insanely high prices. perhaps if the next batch of ann is sold at $300 a bottle it won't sell out for months. sure, we'd all bitch about the crazy price tag and the nerve of HF for charging so much for a beer, but it would still sell out and at least the cash would go to HF. if it sells out immediately and the secondary market is lit up with secondary sales and trade hi-jacking...well then the next release should sell for $500 a bottle, until you find that sweet spot. kind of like when frank zappa decided to release the "Beat the Boots" series which were slightly better recordings of bootlegs that were being sold illegally. the fans clearly wanted them so instead of letting those with tape decks profit off of having a tape deck, zappa one upped them.

Well, it was nice while it lasted. I'll miss being able to order the different beers that weren't distributed to my area or sold out too quickly.

It's complete bullshit, and lame that eBay sells wine and spirits but not beer? Because some breweries whined? Once someone else buys it, its rightfully theirs to do what they please.

It was an easy source for obtaining harder to get releases. It was easier than trading with the hawks in the forums.

What, you don't want my darkness and darklord for your blabaer? Ohh I can just sell them and then buy a blabaer? Well done!

    Exactly...

It was the epitome of the free market. Was.

Ah, the list of things consenting adults can engage in is further dwindled.

Prohibition. Is there anything for which it hasn't been used to try and remedy?

Because I just found 14 pages of a certain wine, searches for beer yield little to zero results.

Heh, this is pretty much exactly what I thought it would take to get alcohol removed completely. If anything I'm surprised it took this long for someone to do it.

I saw that story on ABC last week and was going to post about it, but didnt want to get this thread started again. Its amazing how some national scrutiny can suddenly get eBay to close a loophole its been well aware of pretty much forever.

If all appeals to rational thought fail when trying to prohibit something between consenting adults, play the "won't someone think of the children" card.

it probably took this long because it requires staging & a front (like the story i linked). realistically, spoiled rich fers excluded, how many kids do you figure will get on EBreeze & drop hundreds on rare, overpriced, over-hyped bullshit?

"Buy it now" prices are an option within the auction feature of ebay, but whether or not it's a true auction is a moot point anyway. The option is there for sellers if they would like to set a reasonable price.
