Yeah other than being in the IPA spectrum, those beers you mention are nothing like Alien Church or Punge and especially some of the other Tired Hands hoppy offerings. It's fine if you prefer them...nothing wrong with that as it is all subjective, but one thing I would disagree on is that the Tired Hands beers aren't full-bodied. That's nonsense I tell you!

But it looks to me like you prefer maltier IPAs...nothing wrong with that at all. Me personally I have a hard time drinking malty IPAs anymore. I used to like them, but I guess my palate has changed. I remember a few years ago when I thought Dale's Pale Ale was the greatest, hoppiest beer ever, and now I can barely get through a can of it. And 90 Minute? Forget about it...

So I just did a little experiment. You know, for science.

I've been noticing that "buttery" flavor in HopHands that I know a lot of you have been complaining about lately. I really didn't notice it for a while, until the last batch of cans I got (they are marked 10/04/2016). This was also the first time I'd had it in a can as a place near where I live has a permanent HopHands tap and I usually have it there.

Another thing I noticed was one time when I decided to rinse out one of my HopHands cans before throwing it in the recycle bin, I saw a decent amount of haze pour out of the can which got me thinking maybe with these full-bodied hazy IPAs we are leaving a lot of flavor at the bottom of the can that doesn't want to pour out. So I went down to the beer fridge and flipped over one of the HopHands cans I still had left.

A few days later (tonight) I cracked it open along with one that was right side up. These are both from the 10/05/2016 can release (dated 10/04/2016).

As you can see, the "upside down" can is a good bit brighter in color. I didn't expect to see such a difference. I also noticed a slightly more potent hop aroma with the upside down can. As for the flavor? I wish I could say the difference was as significant as the appearance, but I'm not sure how much of it had to do with said appearance. But I will say I think the upside down can had slightly less of the buttery flavor than the right side up can did. And it definitely had a juicier punch.

So I guess this begs the question...should we be storing our hazy hoppy cans upside down? I was thinking of posting that very question in the main forum.

Just wanted to say, having a 2 month old Watermelon Milkshake, and it's fucking fantastic. I think I like it better than fresh.

We wanted to sit on a Milkshake to see what would happen, if it would just turn into this freaky abomination, as you all know some IPAs just turn to a total bag of cat pee and pine bark or what have you, depending on the hop/malt combo.

Anyway, we came into multiple cans of this one in particular in September, and as luck would have it, jackpot. So good.

I pretty much always flip the can a few times before pouring to try and shake up anything laying on the bottom, I started doing this with heady years back to evenly distribute anything in the can. I know other people say they roll theirs? I have still yet to meet this buttery flavor.

Oh I've done the can flip and the can roll and neither of them seemed to have made as much of a difference as storing the can upside down for a few days.

I'm really glad to hear this. I have 2 cans I sat on a bit too long. Now that I'm on vacation I think I'll drink them!

Am I the only one that hates when they post crap like this with the sole purpose of building hype. Then people already comment "I need this," for god sakes people you don't even no what the beer is yet. Rant over.

Space Needle makes me think this is going to be a piney, more traditional ipa. Maybe holiday spiced? But after just canning the Seasonal IPA it seems too soon for something so similar.

So, worst case scenario. In all honesty, I'll be pissed. I'm on vacation and planning to go and I hate black IPAs.

for talks about flipping can etc.. i always pour some out, maybe 1/3 into my glass then swirl the beer in the can to get the stuff on the bottom.. pour the next 1/3 then swirl again.. this seems to work best at getting anything that has settled at the bottom to distribute into the liquid and into my glass

Just curious why you thought black ipa? Did they brew this once before long time ago?

Nope. Just with the name and artwork it was the first thing that popped into my head. I actually hope I'm wrong because I'm not a an of black IPAs.
