I hope BG will start canning soon. No doubt in my mind their beers are neck and neck with Treehouse.

Stopped by Dancing Gnome yesterday for the first time. I was very impressed! Super juicy hop forward hazy pale ales. I had samples of everything on tap and literally everything was great! They are on point with the "New England style" if that's your thing. Super nice people too! Is Pittsburgh the new Vermont?

I am looking to be up in Pittsburgh for a beautiful January weekend (I am sure the weather will be lovely that time of the year compared to TX).

We are looking at staying in the Lawrenceville area.

With that said, I cannot go through all 300+ pages of that one thread (I have glanced through a little bit of it).

What area breweries are must hits (I have heard Voodoo, Roundabout, Brew Gentlemen, and Fat Heads from the other thread)? How are Hop Farm, Church, Eleventh Hour. and others in that area?

Any good bars in that area that would have a solid selection of local beer? Uber is around, so I don't mind short rides on that. I am guessing Industry Public House?

I am also an optimistic Steelers fan that am hoping the Steelers will be in the second round of playoffs that weekend. Any breweries show sports that would have a solid following at?

Is there any chance this is going to happen? Have they mentioned it before? I didn't think they were anywhere near "big enough" to do that. Their brew space is tiny..they would almost have to brew and can offsite in order to do that.

Dancing Gnome would have the game on. Brew Gentleman sometimes has games on depending on what other events are going on. Voodoo and Roundabout do not have TVs.

Yep believe it or not I was just there Saturday and one of the workers said they are currently in the midst of buying a second property in Braddock so they could start producing more beer and canning! Pretty excited

Draai Laag brewery if you like wild ales. Dancing Gnome add to your list. Hopfarm, Church are both forgettable. Eleventh Hour is as far as I know, inexistent. Someone else may be able to provide more info on that one though. Penn Brewery if you want historic atmosphere and selection of lagers.

Bars- Industry certainly has a big craft tap list. It's a little pricey depending on for what and how long you're there for. Not my first choice but will have a lot of local things on tap. Smallman Galley is again, a bit pricey, but features all local/regional beers. "Beer Head" is a tourist trap, but will have a shiteload of beer selection both draft and bottle. Everybody Loves Piper's. Carson Street Deli always has something interesting on. Tasty sammchs too.

Thanks for the heads up on those. I just basically googled the Lawrenceville area and Eleventh Hour was on there.

I don't need crazy selection, but just a good place to grab beers and enjoy them with friends at a decent price - out of those, any stand out?

And Draai Laag will now be on the list.

@aschwab - I always have a good time at Church; the food is pretty good and its a cool place especially for someone from Texas where the thought of a brewery in an old church would likely never be allowed (I moved up from Houston a 1 year and 1/2 ago).

Must visit breweries - Brew Gentlemen, Voodoo Homestead, Roundabout and Dancing Gnome. You can easily hit Brew Gents and Voodoo in one trip as they are essentially across the river from one another. Roundabout is in Lawrenceville and Dancing Gnome isn't very far.

Breweries to hit up if you have time that are somewhat around Lawrenceville - Draai Laag (they are a substantial drop off from JK) and Grist House. Both are really close to one another.

Must visit bars - Fat Head's Saloon and Pipers. They are across the street from one another. Pipers is my favorite bar in the city and they have really good food; just have to watch out for the soccer hooligans. I really like Industry and Smallman Galley as well.

Ubering it to all of these places shouldn't be too bad from Lawrenceville. Hell, bring up a JK SPON and I'll drive you around myself. :grinning:

Industry or The Abbey should suit your needs.

*if you wanna stay close to Lawrenceville

If you are in Lawrenceville, you gotta go here:

My favorite bar is in Squirrel Hill:

Very nice place; good food; all beer on tap is local. You can pick an LP and they will spin it for you!

VooDoo is in Homestead - very cool if you hit that part of town....

    Hope you enjoy your stay!

Last time I was in Pittsburgh I stopped into Spoonwood out in Bethel Park. Place was pretty cool and had a good selection of beers.
