Hey all! I will be traveling with the wife and our 3 month old daughter to Philly this weekend to run the marathon (me, not the 3 month old). I was looking for your input on some nice breweries or brewpubs in the area with a good selection and somewhat family friendly. She won't be eating anything off the menu, but wanted something casual and low key enough that we would't get sneered at if the baby whimpers a little bit. TIA!!
Standard Tap, usually they have only PA/local beers but I believe they are having some type of "Double IPA" sort of event going on this weekend in addition!
Not sure where you are staying, but there aren't any breweries in Center City (they are in the lower rent neighborhoods). But there are plenty of bars with good beer selections. I believe the race starts/ends at the Art Museum, so somewhat nearby would be City Tap House - Logan Square, which is a large place so kid probably not an issue http://www.citytaphouselogan.com/ If you are specifically looking for a place that brews it's own beer, Bar Hygge is in Spring Garden which is the neighborhood adjacent to the Art Museum http://www.barhygge.com/ You'll see Monk's at the top of the list of Philly beer bars but it is crowded, cramped, and has surly waitstaff, so not the place to go with a kid.
How about 2nd story brewing in Old city and nodding head both are in Center city. Also, Yards is not that far. But if you are looking for family centric place check out Varga bar Brainbridge barrel house Tria tap room City tap house in University city frankford hall Cambridge Heritage Also, look up phillytapfinder.com
Yeah Nodding Head closed almost exactly 2 years ago http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/food_department/Nodding-Head-to-close-pending-a-move.html
