@EmperorBevis thanks for the heads up on this. Thoroughly enjoyed Saturday, and had some very good stuff. Marble's new U.S. Extra Porter the highlight. Five Towns' Beauty and the Beast not far behind.
Very happy to have been part of the last ever ISBF!

Anyone going to Craft Beer Calling (http://www.craftbeercalling.com/) over the coming weekend?

Line up looks great. I'm not going, but would definitely be interested to hear from anyone that is (or has been in the past). Looks like it might be worthy of a trip next year!

Been to the following CAMRA festivals: Bishop Auckland, Ipswich, Cambridge, GBBF, Twickenham. Cambridge was definitely my favourite. It is in the merry month of May, in tents on Jesus Green (!). Sufficient seating. Yes, the GBBF is bigger, but you can't get through everything anyway, and Cambridge is big enough.

    I really wish I didn't know this
    Despite some issues last year
like me losing my debit card
( they put out a generic tweet l, which they didn't respond too & I am so flipping easy to find), frozen beer and power cuts
I only didn't attend this year due to payday timing.
Then I heard about extortionate pricing & volunteers poorly treated & denied proper sampling.
    Next year with no ISBF
I might inspired, by the punk two fingers up to Reading, ogranise a 'Fuck IndyMan' Festival

Apparently the volunteers were given thimbles, yes literally thumb end sized vessels & even then limited to 3 samples per session.
I was told that they were also talked down to & generally fucked about.

The craft scene reveals itself to be just like every other scene. This shit needs nipping in the bud and the ***** outed. I wonder where any profits went?

As others have said Indy Man is the top of the UK events.

Went to CBR a few years ago, very commercial, and although it was a good day out I've not been back since.

Have attended Birmingham Beer bash for the number of years, but felt it was lacking in the selection of the right breweries this year, and not sure if I'll be going again this year.

Also did the first Rainbow launch at Siren a few years back, Siren put on good events, but they're fewer and further apart these days.

Beavertown have just released tickets today for their 5th birthday celebration next year, so think I'll be doing that.

Morning all - in hindsight wish I'd changed the thread to just "events / festivals". Anyway...

Hop City (Leeds) last month has had nothing but good reviews from what I've seen / heard. Did anyone make it?

A local festival this weekend I feel's worth mentioning is Southport Beer Street. Put on by a local bottle bottle shop / bar, Tap and Bottles.
Considering it's not in a major city, or organised by a massive place, the line-up is seriously impressive: http://www.southportbeerstreet.com/beer-list.html

The bar itself is brilliant anyway. Tiny little place tucked away off the main highstreet. The guys that run it really know their stuff, and it's a really decent, relaxed atmosphere.

Last year's festival was great, and the line-up this year looks even better. I've a feeling this will grow and grow. If anyone's nearby over the weekend (Fri-Sun), I'd recommend popping in. £2.50 for the whole weekend.. (and you can keep the glass). What's not to like?

I went on the Friday. First time visiting northern monk and thought the event was fantastic. There was enough of every beer to last all the sessions so nothing ran out. Was a bit concerned that I would get IPA burnout but there was enough variety that it didn't happen. Cool to try alchemist and other half beers but got to say in my opinion the event proved there isn't this large gulf between the top UK and the top US hoppy beers any more.

Seriously good line up there. Organisers need to be commended. Did you manage to sample the Croatian brewery ? Might try to visit if the scene is moving there.

Unfortunately, the beer from the Croatian brewery wasn't on the day I went, so didn't get to sample that. But managed to try a fair few, including a very interesting Liquorice Lady (30 Months Aged Edition) by AD HOP (still trying to work out if I love this or not!), AleSmith's Speedway Stout Mokasida Coffee (BIG) and Curse of Threepwood - Wild Weather (really nice, tart rhubarb and custard).

It was another top event, and a great crowd. Even without the festival, it's a great little place. If you're ever in the area, I'd highly recommend a visit.

When it comes to festivals my favourite has to be Beerex at Salisbury Arts Centre. It is held in, and in the grounds of, an old deconsecrated church and its full of atmosphere. It is not too large and its friendly. Glad to say I got my tickets from the Arts Centre for this year's (16 and 17 June). It looks as if this year it is going to be augmented by an additional range of local ciders.
