Hardywood Trickery

Agreed! I would have grabbed a pour but didn't have the time evening for a quick one. It was a grab and go mission.

 

For a non BA stout it was great but the barrel aging definitely takes it to the next level. Would love to try this in a Tequila or Rye barrel.

 

I think that's probably a contributing factor for many folks who bought as much Cassowary as they did. My friend was on a "grab and go" mission and just grabbed a couple bottles of Cassowary admitting he was caught up in the moment. I was able to try a pour Sunday while a friend waited in line behind me. It's a very good stout, I enjoyed it, but passed for it being a $16 bottle - it's good, but the barrel really transforms it and I'd rather have another Trickery for $4 more. Plus, isn't it going to be around more than just once a year with multiple drops coming?

 

For those of us who unfortunately couldn’t make it to the release this weekend - any follow up info on the possible distro chatter?
Wonder if any was left after Sunday to send out.

 

I don't know how much was left but Hardywood didn't post they were out and they said they would if they sold out of Trickery.

I do know that last year bottles didn't hit shops until the week of Thanksgiving - some had them as black Friday bottles etc. so the good news is I think there's plenty of time for your hunt if they do hit distro.

 

They posted on Twitter yesterday morning that it Trickery sold out, no mention of distro.

If local to NoVA, I believe Rustico Alexandria is getting a keg this saturday for their annual beer festival.

 

Both bottle and draft sold out that is.

I looked back to last year when draft started hitting where I am about an hour away and it was a little over a week after release. I could not find when bottles started showing up but I cracked my first one on 11/22 so it must have been a couple weeks after release.

 

11/22 exactly for my go-to shop last year, though a few places around didn't put it out until Black Friday, or held it behind the counter. But 11/22 was the earliest I could buy one in a shop.

I don't remember them saying anything about distro last year, I just heard rumblings and started bothering my local shop asking if they'd get any. That's my advice for folks who couldn't make it to get bottles, start asking your shop now so 1) they're on the lookout for it and 2) know you're interested if/when it drops.

 

What are the upcoming holiday releases for Hardywood? Bourbon GBS, Rum GBS, Christmas Morning. Any others? Kentucky Christmas Morning?

Dec 3 - Xmas Morning
Dec 10 - Kentucky Xmas

Why am I not surprised on this one? Kidding aside, I wonder how they'll handle this. I've heard nothing of Trickery hitting distro and that seems like recourse from last year's KY Xmas issue. I wonder if they'll announce a 4 bottle limit a few days before the KYXmas release, wonder if any hits distribution at all this year...

any thoughts on how much of a s* show will this be after last year's fiasco? 1pm release. Lines start at 7am so people don't get shutout?

 

Hopefully they have things buttoned up this year. They didn't do tickets last year but it would be nice if they did that this time around. Seems like a great way to remedy the situation and it worked for Trickery and other releases they have done it for. They also did 6pp last year so I wonder if the 4pp this year means less product or they are just trying to stretch it out to more people. Anyway, I would hope they do ticketing. Give out tickets at 10am or 11am so everyone can just hang out then form a line around 12:30 just before sales open at 1pm. That would be my suggestion but what do I know?

 

Last year I believe they also only had 2,500 bottles at 6pp since they had so much go out for distro. Plus is was coupled with 6pp of AB GBS so people came out of the woodwork to get "zomg a case of GBS variants!".

It looks like they're done with distro on Trickery, KY Xmas etc. for now. So I'd expect at least 2x as many bottles, lower limit, and only the one release. I think it'll be very much like Trickery this year - get there early if you want, but probably still plenty to go around come Sunday afternoon.

 

Any Bourbon GBS/ Christmas Morning/ Kentucky XMas sightings in NOVA yet?

 

Well you wont see Xmas/Ky Xmas in distro before the brewery releases in December so definitely those are not around anywhere yet.
