I've ordered Absinth from France before, very easy , very expensive when they ship by private courier, but they guarantee the delivery. I would assume beer would be the same, but the shipping will be ough because of the extra weight of a larger shipment. Still the OP's reason for buying on line is sound, I've never seen a FT for a case of Cantillon, for a once a year thing why not?

I feel like you are getting ripped on shipping. I often ship large boxes (up to about a case of beer), and have never paid more than $25 shipping in the anywhere in the US. Hell to Canada I shipped probably my largest box via FedEx and it cost under $40.

You are right though that it is difficult to find someone in the US with that much Cantillon / 3F to trade. Also the other poster had a good point that factoring in shipping per bottle, it's still about the same price you would pay off the shelf here in the US when these bottles do come around.

Had a great experience when I ordered from Etre. I will be placing my second order sometime soon, I imagine.

Everyone complains about shipping, but how are they shipping? Private Couriers skip customs and sail thru to you, everything that would go thru customs would take a delay and a hassle. I read one post where the brew arrived in less than a week, so I would guess they use a private courier which would definitely increase the costs, but it reduces the hassles, breakage, lost, delayed. From their standpoint they don't want product tied up with US Customs.

My Etre order certainly went through customs. It took just shy of two weeks from when I ordered to when it arrived at my door.

From the day I placed my order, it took only 6 days for it to arrive at my door. Might have been my story:

If they ship thru customs then they have to pay for licensing for lack of a better word I assume, so costs would be higher on their part, higher on your part as well. Uncle Sam gets his cut where he can.

Granted, I am in Pennsylvania, so that's certainly a shorter distance to travel than someone ordering from California. I was just very impressed with everything.

They typically use BPost to initialize the shipping process, but once it hits US Customs (which all of their packages do), it's turned over to USPS. BPost pretty much just "prepares" the shipment.

I've received Etre orders in as little as 4 business days. It's pretty remarkable, actually. Especially considering that an order from France44 (in Minnesota) sometimes takes 5-6 days to get to me.

Still contemplating making my first order with them, I've had my cart filled several times but could never pull the trigger. I keep thinking about what I could buy locally for $300-$400 and I just can't seem to justify it despite loving my loons/3F.

You also have to factor in that in a trade scenario, you need the ammo to even land a lot of these Catillon and other import beers. I'm some cases it's easier to just order them online and not waste the time trying to come up with a beer worthy of a loon.

I am going in a box soon with a few friends, easier then trying to trade for them in my world.

Have you seen how much Etre wants for Fou' Foune? They're currently out of stock, but if the price is what Etre was last charging. we're talking 28 euros, or $36 bucks. Now add on your $10 to $15 per bottle shipping charge and that's about 50 bucks per bottle. At least one other Belgian on-line merchant - Belgiuminabox - just indicated they'll be getting FF soon and have a posted price of 28 euros per bottle.

Considering that $54 is currently the damage for a CASE of six at the brewery, I'd say our Belgian shipping pals have smelled the chum. On the other hand, if you missed buying at eBay...

There's a lot of silliness on here. Take the bottle price and the shipping price and ask yourself if you would pay that amount of money if it were sitting on the shelf in front of you. When we ordered a big box of Cantillon Classic Gueuze, it came out to something like $10 for a 375 and $18 for a 750. This is in contrast to when I raced over to a place to buy one bottle locally for the same price and felt like I had won the lottery. At times, the ordering can be just easier...

Factor in gas prices for those beer runs and it may be easier to open the wallet for beer to arrive at your doorstep after just a few clicks.

I'd be much more on board if I only had to buy into half of a large order.

    *hint hint*

I hate this thread. Stay away from Cantillon and stay away from Etre please.

This hits the nail on the head. Run around store to store hoping to get a bottle or two at prices roughly in the ballpark as the per bottle cost of a decent sized order. I'll take the delivery at my door over the rat race anyday.

I use on line store because they're easy, I don't get the shipping issues in the states, because if I trade I have to ship. It's a wash. Ordering from outside the country is a different animal altogether, even if you split the order you get half the order. Like I said for a once a year thing before the major holidays why not?

The problem is the size of the order. You can't just order a single bottle of Classic Gueuze and have it come out to that price, but I can (lol wish) walk into a shop and buy one single bottle for that price.
