I have a bottle that i dont want. So i thought what the hell would it hurt to try. Do the malt characteristics become more pronoucned like a barley wine Or is it just a mess and not worth it

Gargoyles will probably attack you in your sleep.

In my opinion it will go from a very good beer to a okay beer. It does not turn into a barleywine really. It turns into a less hoppy, more malty Arrogant Bastard. That may sound like an obvious answer but that is what you'll have.

I've had an old one before.. Bought it from a corner store. I dont know how long you would plan to hold on to it, but the on i had turned exactly as kzoobrew described.

There was a post a little ways back that I recall after reading this - the poster talked of the rich sweetness he had grown accustomed to when getting bottles of AB at a small local shop near him - then when a new batch came in he said how sharp the flavors had become, along a significant drop in sweetness, and he thought that the new batch may have been "bad" - but I (and other respondents) suspect it may have just been fresh  ...so to make my long story longer, I'm just affirming what Kzoobrew has already said.

I have heard that it ages very well. I had one that was around 9 months old and it was still pretty awesome..

I have from a number of creditable resources that when this one ages it taste like crap, causes diarrhea, vomiting and on extreme cases meningitis. Since you don't want it just ship to me please.

If you don't want it, give it to a friend while it is still good. Don't age it.
