The $/haul thread got me thinking about how much I spend each year and I'm curious how much BAs usually spend on an annual basis...

I just started really drinking in June. I turned 21 in January. As of now I've had over 50 different beers, and have bought a couple six packs of the same beer so....

Too much already. I'd say I get about two six packs a month? Each costs about $10. So... not as much as I thought. But then you factor in going to bars and what not -- which I don't do often -- and it's about $300. That seems low.

I'm just guessing, but I bet it's around the $2500 mark.

    3/day avg x 365 days x 1.75/bottle avg = 1916 + 40/month outside = 2396.00 approx

Just some fun perspective here - the amount it appears many of us spend annually on beer is the difference between having a base model Corolla and fully loaded Camry.

God, putting beer expenses on a time frame like that really makes me question my spending habits...

Thanks, I think this helps, however most people don't buy a new car each year so it is a bit of a misguided comparison.

Oh geez, I don't even want to do the math. But I'm anywhere between $50-$100/week, then throw in some special releases and I'm in the neighborhood of $3.5k-$5k+

    Yikes.

I think I average $20 per week at the bottle shop, plus going to the bar ~4 times a month, so maybe around $1500/year? That's less than it used to be -- now I only drink a couple times a week and tend to skip bombers and pricey limited releases unless it's something I'm specifically excited for.

Too large of a percentage of my total income for the year.

    Awesome!

I live in the city and take public transportation, so I can spend the money I'm saving on that base-model Corolla on more beer!

I'm comparing typical loan payments, not total purchase price.

Also, putting things in perspective doesn't require your example to be universally applicable.

Does this question include bar gear or just the beer itself?

Do I take into account the money I could be making if I wasn't drinking?

I'd guess somewhere between $1500-$2000 per year. (+/-$1000)

Not counting travel, trades/shipping or breweriana I have spent about 2K in the past two and a half months alone. Yikes.

Really tough to say what counts and what doesnt, I bought some home brew equipment but that has value as I could resell it, I also attend a few festivals each year, does a 9$ sam adams at Patriots game count as beer spending? I also go out to bars/clubs and buy whatever beer is cheapest, I see that as more a social expense than a "beer" expense.

(Seinfeld Voice) Having said that, probably close around 1k with half that being for beer I buy at a store and drink in my home.
