To be fair, I feel like they're telling us to age them given the wax, right?

I felt like Kill Em All was damn tasty fresh, the With Kindness not so much. I also am of the opinion that the wax is more about marketing in this case.

Good to know. Maybe I won't let the Kill Em sit long after all. I can definitely see the wax being a price-inflating gimmick of sorts.

I had With Kindness on tap and it was awesome. Had Kill 'em out of a bottle and it was ok. Might need to sit but it was also 6am and 20 degrees outside when I had it haha.

Opened up a Kill 'em All tonight and I'm really surprised by how well it aged. Frankly, I didn't mean to age it at all, I was just seriously unimpressed when it was released and never felt like revisiting it. So it just kinda languished there behind everything else. I finally opened it tonight thinking "I'll probably wind up having half a glass and dumping the rest." Well, I was dead wrong. It's much smoother and the flavors are better integrated than when it was fresh. There's still a pretty good bourbon aroma and the barrel taste comes through loud and clear, it just seems more balanced. The only major knock is that it's pretty heavily carbonated. It's not a gusher, by any means, but it has a slightly soda-like mouthfeel. I poured my 3rd glass pretty aggressively and it's still more fizzy than I'd like.

Bumping this old ass thread for 2 reasons.

First, has anyone had the MMB from Greyline? If you have, is it the same as Perrin's now obsolete version? Lots of conflicting info about who owned the recipe, and which brewers had rights as they bounced around from brewery to brewery. Also interesting that the name is slightly different (malted milk ball porter vs. malted milk baltic porter) which makes me believe that this isn't a settled issue.

The main reason I bumped the thread, however, is Kill 'em All and With Kindness. It is somewhat remarkable that these beers are still floating around on shelves in the GR area. Just goes to show how big of a "miss" these beers were to still sit around 2 years later. Anyways, last week I popped a With Kindness that had been hiding in the back of my stash. I hoped as "hot" as these beers were that they would mellow with age and turn into something more drinkable. Nope. Holy crap it is an oxidized mess now. Barrel character hasn't just mellowed but is now totally gone. Over-carbed and wet cardboard nasty oxidation making it a nearly instant drain pour. If you are saving these for a rainy day, well make it happen sooner rather than later.

Age cannot make a bad beer good, although it can occasionally make a good beer great.

    Just my opinion anyway

I live in Kalamazoo and had a friend with this beer he forgot about. It was great! You said GR still has some of Kill em All on some shelves. I would like to pick up a couple of bottles for sharing at Thanksgiving (don't wanna pull out my cellar stash). Can you tell me where I can find this?

I know I've seen it at 2 different places in the past month, but I'm not 100% sure where. I think it was D Schuler's and grandville meijer. I can double check for you before you drive up from k-zoo. Otherwise I have one more left and you may have it if you want it.

I'm pretty sure that I saw a bunch of this at my Meijer store and it's new stuff if it's in my Meijer, so it's likely that the brewery may have released this beer again. Check your Meijer store.

Both Kindness and Kill Em All were available for purchase at the Unfinished Business/Nuclear No Rules event this year. But I do not believe these were "new" bottles.

A Perrin rep mentioned that the Malted Milk Ball recipe is property of Right Brain. I have no idea if that is true.

That's kind of correct. I believe that the recipe belongs to brewer Sam Sherwood who hangs his hat at Right Brain.

Thanks will call and check. The only thing I have seen is Unfinished Business which was a major disappointment. I also appreciate the offer of taking it off your hands!

Okay, so...that beer was amazing. Has Right Brain ever brewed it? Even if it was tap room only?

I'd forget about CEO stout variants and put all my biscuits in the malted milk ball basket.

Is that bottles to go? Or consumption on premise only?
