This makes sense for the SS growler, and I am contemplating getting one. However, where is the justification in the cost of the glass growler?

The glass one is all fancy-schmancy like Iron Fist / Hess, with the metal loops and handle.

ahh I see. I have only been when the first opened (within a day or two) and only remember seeing the SS. However, what is the point of the fancy glass ones if they do not have the features of helping maintain the quality of the beer? Sure a fancy one can be fun, but cheaper ones are nice, especially for CA.

regardless why would a company opt for a $20+ growler in a state with ******ed growler laws. I dont get it. ESPECIALLY being a new company.. I bet this impacts sales more then they think. I know i would have purchased several growlers from HESS if its wasnt for this same problem.

25 dollars to buy a growler has been and will continue to be the reason I don't visit societe when I'm making day trips to SD to visit family and get my other growlers filled.

I sampled a few of their beers at a tap takeover back in July and liked everything I had. Here's to hoping they start bottling before those sours are ready.

I know that the glass bottles are the flip top with a thick red rubber seal and thick glass, again going with quality. The thick rubber does a very good job sealing the growler, I just don't want to have to store one as they are massive in size compared to the ss growlers.

So whats wrong with using the Russian river/stone style growlers? they also have a rubber seal and cost less then a third of the SS growler. As stated before i bet the $42 price tag of a full growler has scared away a lot of sales. Specially to someone who is not a local and wont have the chance to fill the growler up on the regular.

If CA didn't have stupid laws I'd buy a nice stainless growler in a heartbeat, but since we do I never will. I guess this means I'm not ever buying a growler from Societe.

I agree with you, I think it's bonkers to not have a $4 piece of glass available to those who just want something cheap.

Why is everyone complaining about paying a 1 time premium of $15-20 ($25 minus $5 to 10 for a glass growler) to have a high quality growler and awesome piece of merch? I love the SS growlers and the way Societe CO2 purges and fills them. Beer is a luxury item, its not price gauging or anything. We brought back 6 of the stainless steel growlers to Vegas and had tons of people asking about where we got them and how great they were.

If that extra $15 is breaking your bank, maybe its time to question some things...

Dismissing an entire brewery because of the price of their growler is ridiculous. Be thankful you live in San Diego and have access to so many great beers and nitpicking the price of the growler is even a thing.

Can you get those growlers filled in NV? Because in CA we can only get those filled at Societe. The growler is awesome, and I have thought about getting one. However, I do not buy growlers anymore as I have far too many. Yes I won't be able to get some beer to take home, but as a local I can just find the beer on tap or visit the tasting room. The extra cost and hassle isn't worth it to me as a CA resident. The only growlers I get filled are ones that are already own glass for.

Why would I spent an extra $15 when a normal growler would suffice for my uses? I don't want to store their beer for several weeks, I want to bring it home from the brewery and open it with friends within 24 - 48 hours of it being filled.

It's not an issue of affordability, it's an issue of not wanting to spend $25 when something much cheaper would suffice for most of our uses. Just because beer is a luxury item, doesn't mean that value shouldn't be considered.

You know what the amazing thing is? Growler sales at Societe are doing great, I think well over 500 stainless and 300 glass sold. The majority of people buying growlers aren't beer snobs on beeradvocate, instead just locals that enjoy good beer and for that I thank them.

The owner of my company is a multi-millionaire and questions charges and value all the time. Not everyone who wishes to not waste money on unnecessary things is broke. It is quite lame to assume otherwise.

Should still offer more options. Delete the gigantic glass monster and add a Stone/RR type swing top. Keep the SS for people who don't question value like the big Vegas baller above. No matter how you debate this - Societe is selling less beer because of it. If they are fine with that, good for them.

PS: The customer is always right =)

So we're snobs because we don't want to pay for an overpriced container than we can only use at one particular location in the entire state of California?

6 growlers of Bad Boy @ Alpine, all new : $168
6 growlers of The Pupil @ Societe, all new: $252

Guess I am a snob or broke since I see the value in Alpine. Oh - and Alpine's glass price is a ripoff compared to others who sell the same one like PP and BP =)

What's wrong with a brewery wanting to do things their way?

Given that the two Societe brewers/owners have previously worked at Brueries, er, breweries that use that RR/Stone style of growler, it seems reasonable to assume they think the stainless and large-mouth glass flip-tops are better. Based on my experience with the three styles, I would agree.

The focus at Societe is on delivering the best quality they can, not the cheapest. For example, I've been told that they will not bottle any IPAs because they think customers will have a better experience if the beers are on draft.
