So, uh...that empty collapsible chair at the front of the line, that's mine. I just went to my car to warm up for a minute. I swear I'll be right back!

Lol, you are doing it wrong. Rent a smart car and just park it in the front on the sidewalk...

I wouldn't say the fact point to less - I think it's more based on rumors and your own assumptions. There certainly are facts that they gave out all those bottles of Prop this past weekend, but they did the same last year with Rare, and we know there was plenty of that to go around (and still is). They also could have upped production of Prop this year for all we know, and that's one reason they could hold a separate Prop Day.

Also, the fact that there are 2 less variants this year doesn't mean there are less bottles of the variants they do still have. And, remember that coffee shortages are rumors...not fact. Some people speculate that some BCBS gets dumped every year due to inconsistencies with different barrels, etc. Even if some got dumped this year, we have no idea if that's more or less than what was dumped last year.

I am fairly certain I know of at least one location that is getting more BCBS (both regular and variants) than they did last year. And, I also don't think that they are going to short-change their flagship store/event at LP Binny's and risk any bad publicity with that (at least I wouldn't be that dumb, at least not with giving some prior warning). But, we shall see in about 60 hours!

My personal belief is that the "shorted allocations" nationwide is because GI is reserving supply to distribute at future Black Friday events (all these 2015 Rares popping up would seem to support that) and that they are putting a ton more in kegs (look at all the Chicago area Black Wednesday BCBS draft releases, what place in town won't have it on?).

Are those Black Wednesday events any different than last year? From what I've seen, there are pretty much all the same places doing them. Plus, there were tons of tappings in Chicago over the following few months, so they kegged a lot of last year's as well...or so it seems.

I agree that they will be holding a bunch of these going forward to reserve for future events. Although, shouldn't we believe they had been doing that before, considering they are still making Prop '14, VR and regular vintages back to 2012 available still?

I got there at 10:30 last year and I was fine. I had friends that showed up just before noon that got the same allotment as everyone else, but some slightly less glamorous vintage bottles

I'm clearly in the minority here, but all I really care about is a few bottles of regular and barley wine (which is my favorite "variant"). If I get anything else, that would be cool, but is not necessary. So I'm not super eager to wait in a line on Friday if at all possible. So my question is this - roughly how long does a line last at Binny's LP? (i.e. before you can just walk in the store and grab a few bottles and leave.)

I can't recall exactly, but being 600+ deep I seem to recall not getting into the store until after 10:00 (store opened at 9). Line moves quickly, and should be shorter later on in the morning after the store has been open awhile, but I would plan to wait around an hour ish.

They already announced a similar number of allocations

They always have held SOME back, but the 2015 was held at ridiculous levels. Look how much Rare they held back, most of the stores are getting multiple cases of Rare. Let's not forget they have a new market in Philly that they will have to take care of soon once the GI brewpub is completed there. Don't you think they will have comparable BF releases there next Thanksgiving and that will take a lot of existing BCBS to pull off.

As for Black Friday, you may be right, but I thought most of the events had been in the city. It seems like every single suburb of Chicago now has at least one bar with a BCBS release party.

Feels like we are complaining about there being more vintage bottles than usual.

Can anyone speak to the availability of BCBS on tap at some of these downtown Wednesday events (either Beer Bistro or Timothy O'Tooles, specifically)? We're heading downtown for the parade, staying at the Palmer House tonight, and a couple of dads and I will have a little free time after the rugrats go to bed. I'm not looking for VR or 2014 Prop, but would love to grab a pour of regular if they're still around after 9pm.

Feeling is the absence of logic. You bet the people in other states who are seeing a lot less allocations this year are complaining about them reserving more current stuff to be released as vintage stuff next year.

You should be able to find a ton of regular around.

My guess is that they have ramped up holdbacks a bit, but I also think they've just made so much more of it in the past few years that there is more available to hold back, even if they are consistent in the % they hold back. Add in the extra variant (Rare) from last year, and it seems like there is a ton more held back. I also think they already figured out what is needed for new markets and don't significantly shortchange their home market here.

Either way, this is a good thing for us...right?

Anybody know if Reg BCBS shows up at Sam's Club?
