If you check the dates on the regular, you will get a sense for whether they are bad dates. If they're bad dates, they still have a chance of being good.

For the Barleywine, I never had a single good one, so I wouldn't expect good things. I'd see if they would take a return for it (and regular, if they're infected dates).

Yeah you can make BCS Coffee by just cold brewing the coffee and blending it with regular BCBS. I think that is basically how GI does it.

Based on how many I saw at Prop Day, they should be able to keep them in stock for the next 3-4 years easy.

Exactly, at $10 it is a steal. We know that because retailers have to set limits and it sells out immediately. $30 is the highest I've seen it, but plenty of people will buy it for that. I would love to be able to walk into any store year-round and see BCBS on the shelf at $30 as I can with some of Goose's high-end sours or the 50/50 series. That shouldn't be so crazy to people here who think anyone charging more than MSRP is "gouging" or "******."

I've got no problem with places charging as much as they can for the beer, but they can't be selling recalled beer. It's especially bad if they claimed the refund with the neck labels. I would report the store to Goose, the distributor and probably the BBB. That's terrible.

With the Whole Foods releases, are they as crazy as the Binny's release? What would be the recommended time to show up to have a chance another Coffee? Are the DePaul & LP Whole Foods pretty packed with people waiting in line from like 3 a.m.?

I think it would be worth having the chance to get another variant if getting at the doors at like an hour before they open to grab another bottle of BCBCS. I work near a couple of Whole Foods so I think leaving a little early and having a couple of bottles before my shift would be a nice way to start the day.

    Thanks guys!

People line up early for wherever Bourbon County variants are released en masse such as this. It's tough to say the "right" time without knowing more details about how much each store has.

I don't think you can really compare prior years' times for lining up, though, due to a couple reasons. First, there appears to be a reduction in allocations to many stores. While I don't specifically know the # of cases WF is receiving, I do have the general sense their allocations have gone down based on all stores only doing one variant this year and the uptick in Jewel getting variants. Second, there is less variants made by GI this year as opposed to last year (last year: Rare, Prop, Regal, Coffee, BW; this year: Prop, Coffee, BW).

Of course, you can offset that somewhat by the fact that WF is only doing one variant per person this year (as opposed to two last year), so that should make the variants last a bit longer in the line. In the end, just find a time comfortable with you and just live with the choice.

I dunno if the WF locations will be packed by 3 am, but I'd say that LP will definitely have a line by then. It won't be the same level of craziness as Binny's, but it'll still be well-occupied.

Don't take this as anything other than anecdotal: I got the West Loop WF at like...I dunno, 6 or 7 am last year, and was far enough back in line that they were out of most variants at that point (they didn't have that many, though).

    ^^ Agreed.

If you were in line at Capones 3 hours before release and were 30th, then I would suggest getting to WF at least 4-5 hours before hand.....

Thanks for the advice! I was wondering to get a better sense of what to expect. This is the first year that I've really participated in the BCS events (waiting in line at Binny's on Black Friday) and have no real idea what any of these releases are like. I figure, if the weather has been as nice as it has been it would be worth waiting in line a few hours to snag a few beers that would be within reason. I've met some pretty nice people in line and spending the time is kinda fun.

Either way, I also figure I could trade for what I have for what I want.

Thanks again for the advice & knowledge!

Whole Foods team member here... From what I've been told, this is indeed correct and allocations are varying from store to store. Just an FYI, make sure that you check with the store that you're looking at in advance, because not all are getting variants. Some smaller volume stores are only getting a limited supply of regular, so YMMV.

IMO, if I was a very casual beer drinker who wanted to try BCBS and not have to hunt for it, trade, wait in lines, etc., I would definitely pay $30 for a bottle. It's expensive, but it's also a "treat" that you can't normally find on the shelves.

If you're loading up on them, obviously $30 is way too much. But $30 is a price where, eventually, they will sell through (especially because it stays good for so long).

Anyone have a tip to score some BW? ...without the gouging? I may be an outlier, but I think GI brews a fantastic BW.
