one of the best beers Chicago has to offer...and Cafe Deth is so, so good and should be easier to get bottles of it compared to another popular Chicago BA coffee beer.....

very much looking forward to this

Tempting. I keep passing on Deth because it's always on the shelf, but I've never had any variants.

I've found that I WANT to like Deth's Tar and Café Deth more than I actually DO like them. It seems like this could be a fun event to try them again, as well as the other variants, but I probably won't get to squeeze it in.

What a surprise, you're gonna go have a beer/beers you don't really like.

In all seriousness, I'm kind of the same way with Deth's (never had Café since I don't like coffee stouts); it's an excellent beer, but I don't love it, especially in the crowded BA stout market that is Chicago. No hate here though, as I'm a huge Star Wars fan, and think the name is one of the best out there.

I'm a glutton for punishment. :grimacing: I think the name is also a reason why I've wanted to like it more than I have. I honestly haven't cared for any Revolution BA beer I've had - maybe they just aren't for me.

Yeah, I bought it for the name the first time around.

I like Fist City, loved Unsessionable when it came out, and have thought a lot of their more limited releases were pretty good (mostly tried 'em at the taproom). Very Mad Cow is pretty tasty too. To me the biggest issue with Rev is that (like HA for a while), they do too many similar IPA/DIPAs. I've been in there before where it feels like 50% of the beers on tap are an IPA, and we're not just talking Mosaic Hero, Citra Hero, etc.

Either way, I predict that 21-month Deth's Tar is gonna be dope as hell. I've yet to have a stout with that much time in barrels that wasn't awesome.

I'm really excited about this. I personally think Deths Tar is underrated. It's really their best offering and so easy to get..I've heard nothing but great things about Cafe Deth and that 21 year old old Forrester deths tar really peaked my interest. Def attending this event and I have some extra cash from not blowing it all on bourbon county this year....Hopefully it lives up to expectations

Fine, I'll rephrase. It's a decent enough beer, but I don't feel the need to buy it more than once a year. By the time I pick up all the stuff I may never see again and my usual array of hops, I don't generally want add another $18 to my tab.

    Better?

I both agree that this is the Chicago beer scene in a nutshell, but I'm the same way. There's SO much good shit I haven't tried that aside from a few favorites, I try to drink as much limited stuff as possible, because I know the stuff on the shelf will always be there.

Permanent Funeral is one of my all-time favorites, but I rarely drink it because there's ALWAYS something new to try first.

Just a reminder that the BA bombers are $15 at the taproom. So saving $3 apiece plus the draft variants sounds like a good trip

I assume most of us are like that. It's not possible to regularly buy each of the several thousand beers out there.

Back on topic, how are we not all freaking out about the vanilla variant?! Isn't that like catnip for neckbeards?

Never did a rev release at the taproom. If I don't have time for taps, can I just go in and buy without the hassle of a line? And will the sell bottles as soon as they open or do they wait until 5 to go along with the tappings?

I'm sure it'll be great, I just really want the 21 month version. It's basically Deth's Tar Rare.

My only worry with vanilla is that the cocoa nibs will overpower it.

Vanilla is draft only. It can't make Whalez Bro status like that. Has to be bottled to be currency.
