Please show me this law that states alcohol can be sold without a liquor license on the assumption it won't be consumed.

I am not a lawyer and will not pretend to be. I also don't have the will or desire to research this. The fact that this website exists and continues to provide the service it provides is testament to the fact that it is not illegal. Theres a reason you don't see U.S. websites openly selling heroin, and that is because this illegal activity would quickly be shut down.

Anyway, even if it is verified that I am 100% wrong I could not care less and would still see this outrageous overcharging as bad practice. As I said before though, this is veering off topic.

The law not being enforced ≠ legal. The government is a little more concerned about an illegal schedule 1 drug in heroin than alcohol and comparing the two is asinine.

The number of dollars being exchanged on the illegal online black market amounts to a rounding error when compared with the entire beer industry in the United States. THAT is why the website still exists. Just because it isn't worth the government's time to go after these people in no way legitimizes the practice or makes it legal.

It is still illegal if there is alcohol in the bottle. Look up any state alcohol statute you want, you will find zero that have a caveat that selling alcohol without a license is somehow legal if someone claims they aren't buying/selling it for consumption.

Ill take your word because as I said I have no desire to check. Side question, is legality your only moral compass as to whats right and wrong? Something can be legal and not necessarily ethical. I believe that the rampant overcharging falls into that category.

Curious: had you known ahead of time that you would only get regular, would you have still lined up?

I think it is wrong because it screws over retailers who have to pay for licenses, taxes, rent, etc. that allows them to sell alcohol, not because it is illegal. The legality is what causes retailers to have to pay those prices to sell beer, so that is why I think it is bad because it is illegal.

Fuck no. I just lack the willpower to stand in line for hours and hours, so I go in foolishly optimistic. I can usually get Reg at a corner store closer to me.

No knock on Reg, but I don't stock up on it like a lot of people do. I'm usually there for the variants.

If I saw coffee for $25, I would buy it in a second. Be a hell of a lot easier than whatever else I'd have to go through to get one around here.

I don't really want in on this argument, but I see you are a beer trader with a current trade offer. Do you have a liquor license?

I got 1 coffee this year because I am fortunate enough to have a guy. I was too late for coffee where I went to try to get another allotment . I had the afternoon off today and was in downtown Chicago . came upon a little liquor store at Wells and Division I think. they had coffee for 47 and prop for 65. I was not interested in either for those crazy prices. I texted a buddy who didn't even drink beer a year ago. he loves BCBS now and has only had a partially infected coffee from last year. He told me to get it so for him it was worth 52 bucks with tax. I can understand him willing to pay that for one . saving 3 hours in line was worth the premium price for him. Time is money. Cheers

I'm not aware of any statue that requires me to have a license to exchange beer for beer. I may be wrong, but I don't think it is illegal if no money is involved and I'm not giving the beer to a minor.

You are wrong, if you are shipping over state lines. It may be illegal even if you do it locally - I'm not sure on that.

I will say that I got to my local WF around 5 last year, and was able to get Rare and Regal Rye. Obviously that's an hour (or 1.5 hours) longer than what you waited at West Loop, but I was able to get much more than regular. I'll be out there Friday morning, and am pretty confident I'll be able to get what I want. But, I really don't mind the waiting in line - I typically watch a show/movie on my tablet for most of the time, so I figure I'm doing something I wanted to do anyway (I don't get to watch much TV or movies anymore with kids around!) and getting some beer I want. I'll also chat with those around me, so it really all works out pretty well for me.

I'd be fine with lines if they allowed bottles shares, but if I want to sit around and do nothing, I'm going to do it at home with a beer in my hand.

Lol. My BCBS exploits for 2016 solely consisted of Prop Day... There is just more good beer than liver these days.

I'd probably wait in line for bcbs if they allowed bottle shares! That is an event in and of itself. That's why I go to releases at Perennial! Wonderful times! Cheers!

For what it's worth, I woke up at around 6.30 last year, read on Facebook that there were about 20 people in line at LP Whole Foods and high tailed it over there. Got there around 7 and was maybe 30th in line? I missed out on rare by a few people, but got prop and regal, and was also able to go through again and get a coffee (which was thrown out :slight_frown:)
