Yes I had exactly the same phone call. I wonder what the harm is in releasing approximate numbers or at least confirming variants

That's pretty weird. I plan on stopping at Whole Foods in Glenview (Willow & Waukegan) over lunch and inquiring about their release tomorrow, or even whether they will have one. I'll update after lunch.

Might have more luck in person? Guy was nice enough on the phone but was very firm in his stance. Said something about wrong info going out in prior years and pissing people off so this year they aren't saying anything at all.

Thanks for this - gentleman stocking the liquor aisle went in back and handed me 1 around 9:20 today.

Did anyone PM the WF employee who posted in (I think) this thread, and if not, multiple times in the main Black Friday thread? He said he would try to get a read on a specific store's allocation via PM only.

In case anyone is eyeing an Evanston WF location, just a reminder that Evanston does not allow the sale of formats larger than 12oz individually (Evanston 1st is the lone exception) - so all 3 Evanston WF, as far as I know (was the case last year) will be selling their allocations by the unopened case only - low number of opportunities, high quantity and cost if you're up for it. I don't believe any got variants last year (I'm 95% sure that North and South didn't - not sure about the Downtown location which would likely be the busiest as it's right by Northwestern).

This is what they posted on FaceBook ()

Here are the details you need to know:
    - Start Time: Beer will be available for purchase at the earliest time the store is allowed to sell liquor. For Deerfield, that is 8am.
    - Limits: First come, first served. Each customer will be able to purchase
    - 2 Original Bourbon County Stout, 16.9oz
    - 1 of the 3 BCS Variants (until they are sold out)
    - Pre-Orders: There are NO pre-orders, customer lists or guaranteed purchases.
    - Store Allocations: We will not know the quantity that our store will receive until the day the product arrives in-store.

I talked to the WF South Evanston beer guy who confirmed that they'll only be selling regular, no variants. If you're deciding between the Downtown and South Evanston locations (only about a mile apart), I would go with South. For whatever reason, cases were $35-40 more expensive at the Downtown location last year.

Can't say I blame them considering this reasoning. I've seen people get outraged on social media when something changes from what they were told. And more often then not, these people who scream and shout in these instances probably already have bottles from other stores. Some people take this stuff way too seriously.

South opened the box and scanned 12 at the unit price (so I heard, was not there) - I got a case at North last year and indeed, it was way more expensive too. I'm a little gun-shy about getting another whole case this year, but we'll see if FOMO hits.

Yep I totally get not committing to details like bottle counts or something. I'm just surprised they wouldn't at least say "we only have regular" vs "yeah we've got some very limited variants, first come first serve". Seems like a clear/easy distinction to make and people can choose what to do from there. Hard to wait in line and not even know what you're waiting for.

Anyone contacted Whole Foods in Schaumburg, the one near Woodfield Mall?
I won't be able to stop by in person to ask until late night.

Last year I went to WH Lakeview, got there around 7:40am and I was number 28 in line or so. Got Regal and Coffee. Last Prop was sold to the person in front of me (lucky).

    Edited:
    Just checked they facebook.

For the second year, Whole Foods Market is releasing Goose Island Bourbon County Stout the week AFTER Black Friday on Friday, December 2nd. Take advantage of a second opportunity to purchase this coveted beer!

Here are the details you need to know:

    - Start Time: Beer will be available for purchase at the earliest time the store is allowed to sell liquor. For Whole Foods Market Schaumburg, that is 8am.

    - Limits: First come, first served. Each customer will be able to purchase

Their FB page shows the same as the Schaumburg one above. HOWEVER, it also says they will be tapping a keg of BCS tomorrow night at 6 p.m.

Talked to someone at Northbrook WF (Willow & Waukegan), and they said they will indeed be selling 2 regular + 1 variant (out of 3) per customer until they run out. Couldn't tell me how much of each variant they had.

I'll be at this one tomorrow since it is right on my way to work, but it seems like most Whole Foods in the north burbs will have variants available.

Definitely less than last year's allocation for WF.
