    Hi guys!

Figured it might be good to have a single thread to track some of the less obvious/big name stout releases. I picked up a bottle of Dosvidanya yesterday so looking forward to cracking that soon.

Is Malevolence set to be released soon?

    Anything else coming up?

Malevolence is going to hit shelves in a couple weeks. They said it will be available after the BA release on the 10th. Looking forward to the regular Malevolence, last years was excellent

Yeah, there's a thread for last year's BA Malevolence Chocolate Caliente (BAMCC) release that has been necro'd to include this year's. It's next Saturday at The Green Lady, and required tickets (I believe they're now sold out). As far as I know, they don't have plans to distribute this batch, but given how that beer really put them on the map, I'm sure it's on the horizon at some point.

Wish I could've been at TGL for the Dosvidanya Rye release, since I'm curious how it is.

Good idea for a thread; I guess it was inevitable!

I think they're talking about the non-BA version being distributed. I know it's hard for us to consider a stout that isn't BA  (it confused me a bit at first when reading), but I think that's what they were getting at.

Have people had the Begyle BA Flannel Pajamas? Been wondering thoughts on that. I think I had last year's at some point, and didn't seem to leave a lasting impression.

Sorry, to be clear, yes, it's the non-BA going to distro; they're not distributing the BA batch. I'm just saying it's a hugely popular beer, so I assume BAMCC will hit stores sometime next year.

I like BA Flannel Pajamas a decent bit, at least the bottle I had last year. It's nothing crazy, but it's a very tasty stout in my opinion. I can see it not standing out particularly, but I thought it was good.

Buckledown in Lyons released their BA Significant Stout on the Wednesday prior to Thanksgiving. They may still have it on tap. Not sure if they still have bottles. I'm guessing not based on the fact that I saw numerous people buying more than 1 case on release day.

They also released their Stompbox BA Stout today at noon and are tapping some variations of the stout as part of their 3rd anniversary party tomorrow: Raspberry at 3PM, Coffee at 5pm, and Ancho Chocolate Vanilla at 7PM.

I'd say they're solid all the way around. I don't know that I've had anything of theirs that would put them in the upper-echelon of local beers, but everything they make is good. Their Belt & Suspenders is pretty widespread and is a good beer, slightly on the maltier side (to my tastbuds). Their Clencher, also available in cans, is pretty widespread and is worth a pick up, IMO. It is something that I like to keep in the fridge and send out to friends in packages regularly. On tap, they will do a Clencher and feature a different hop. I think they've got Amarillo running right now.

Their stouts have consistently gotten better and their BA releases are a solid B/B+ and they keep the price reasonable at around $15/bottle. They've done some decent collaborations in the past. The did one with Greenbush that I really liked...it was boozy though.

Great little place and nice people with a devoted local following.

I'm always skeptical when I see a small brewery who has really poor ratings on almost all of its beers but somehow is producing an incredible barrel aged stout.

    Hype machine??

If you're talking Metal Monkey (which I know nothing about, and have never heard of), it's fair to point out that none of beers have more than 10 ratings (meaning it's pretty hard to get any relevant meaning out of the ratings at this point). Also, the majority of their beers are in the mid to high threes, which I wouldn't call "really poor," especially since most of the beers they did are in styles that don't historically do as well on BA.

I haven't been in any stores this week to see if they're still around, but I grabbed a couple Lake Effect BA imperial stouts last week and thoroughly enjoyed the one I popped. I want to say it was around $15 for a bomber.

Nah it's more a general feeling that I see pretty frequently. Someone will mention some small time brewery (often in terms of "Hey I'm traveling to XYZ, what's good there?") and you'll see what I described.

Dosvidanya Bourbon and Rye versions are out for distro now - probably an "ask for" anywhere.

Drago by Wild Onion is VERY underrated - it's fantastic and a great value. It will be out in all the big and small stores typically and their release party is next week on the 10th where they will have variants too. All details on their Facebook page.

Big Hugs from Half Acre is great, and they are doing a presale for the first time, along with the in person bottle release: http://www.halfacrebeer.com/big-hugs-16/

Central Waters BB Stout is out in WI now, and their 4pks should be in IL soon for $14.99.

...just trying to be a "Beer Advocate"...happy hunting!

Thanks! Been meaning to try Drago for a while now.

Couldn't find the rye version of Dosvidanya unfortunately...

Drago is fantastic. It's one of the best available BA stouts on the market, widely available or limited.

Which is weird, because Wild Onion is an absolute shit brewery. Their stuff is downright terrible outside of hop slayer.

But gotta give credit where it's due, and drago is awesome.

It's definitely not as refined as a BCBS and can be a bit hot, but on a buzz per ounce per dollar spent, it really is a fantastic deal. And it just shelf turds it up for the most part.
