Hey. Guess it is time for me to book the first flight to Milwaukee and explain this to you in person, that will cost you a Wisconsin craft beer. Nothing more. Cheers

Hoping to get all of the Avery beers that are being discontinued. I've been hanging onto this for a bit. It's very sweet between the malt and the bourbon. Give me Mephistopheles over this any day. I still need to crack The Beast Grand Cru:

Had high hopes for this, but I'm not overly impressed. Very sweet from the maple syrup and bourbon barrel up front, but the back end is really bitter. I assume that the base beer was very bitter prior to going into the barrel. Won't be seeking this out again...

You'll have to find Madison, but I'm absolutely down. Actually, just find a place in Milwaukee called Water St. and I'll come to you.

Me too. I have to do border runs to get Jai Alai. Thankfully, it's not difficult.

I'm not sure the Kinks were twice the Beatles but they are incredibly underrated. I've seen a lot of concerts in my day but one of the very best was the Kinks' first show of their 1979 Sleepwalker tour. Second row. What a show!

Good evening BA, happy Friday! Hope everyone had a pleasant end of the work week. For being the week following Thanksgiving, it sure seemed to fly right by for me. Decently busy, but not too stressful. One more week until I change vehicle programs, then it really will get hectic. Today's reviews:

New brewery for me, Four String from Ohio. This was really nice! Aromas and flavors of big vanilla, milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, toasted brown bread, and light nutty/coffee maltiness; with a some light herbal/peppery hops. Light-moderate herbal/spicy hop and light roast bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied; nice balanced bready/grainy malt creaminess and hop stickiness in the mouthfeel. Touch of chalky roast. Increasingly drying from bitterness, but not astringent. Just a touch too bitter/drying for my preferences; this is still spot on for an American porter style. Really great malt complexity without feeling too roasty/charred. Plenty of vanilla without feeling overpowering, artificial, or sweet. 3.9

This is a pumpkin spiced Munich Dunkel lager. This was really good! Great head retention and lacing down the glass. Aromas and flavors of caramel, brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, nutmeg, cinnamon, light chocolate, and herbal/peppery noble hops. Light-moderate herbal hop and spice bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied; balanced bready/grainy malt and hop/spice stickiness in the mouthfeel. Light-moderately dry finish. Very clean lagering with no fruity/estery flavors. Really drinkable and well balanced between the Munich Dunkel and spices. Base style is pretty spot on all around; though a bit more bitter and drying from the spice presence than would be classically expected. Really enjoyable. 3.78

Big ass strong ale. Holy shit! Oak barrel presence is at insane levels, but not boozy at all. Aromas and flavors of huge raisin, cherry, blueberry, raspberry, fig, date, orange, apricot, red wine, vanilla, toffee, toasted oak, rye whiskey, molasses, brown sugar, dark bread, chocolate, cocoa, peppercorn, cinnamon, leather, and tobacco. Light-moderate oak spice and bittersweet roast on the finish. Very full bodied; creamy/silky mouthfeel; with some light slickness and chalky roast. Solid spicy/oak barrel dryness. Mild and pleasant warmth of 14.3%, zero barrel booze. This is just downright amazing all around. Huge on oak, but balanced with tons of varying malt and barrel complexities from the different base beers. Dangerously smooth for the ABV. I never got a chance to try Collage #1, but they really killed it with this one. Only 4 months from bottling, and this is ready to go. 4.42

I comfort myself thinking of all the money I'm saving on Grapefruit Sculpin since I moved here.
