Doesn't help you in Portland, but I stumbled on a can here in Bend, so it must have landed there too.

Any places have bottles of KDS? Probably heading over to Growler Guys SE soon, so places near there preferably if it's available. Not sure if they sell bottles there sorry not familiar with the Portland scene.

They do sell bottles, but am pretty sure have long been out of bottles of KDS. You can still find bottles of KDS around town, but it's pretty limited. I saw some at the MofC up on Terwilliger a week back, but that's the last place I can think of that had any. Definitely give them a call before heading up that way, should you be so inclined.

    Good luck.

This past weekend, I hit two of the new kids on the block, Scout Beer & Grixsen Brewing, to see what they were all about. I did so AFTER a stop at Great Notion, so I suppose they were already at a disadvantage, as I have no idea how a brewery could come out of the gates hotter than GN. Regardless, here are my (somewhat fuzzy) recollections:

Scout - The place was nearly empty at about 4pm on a Saturday, which was not encouraging to begin with. The decor is a woodsy/camping theme. While it was done decently, I felt like it really had a "trying too hard" vibe. I had a 5 beer taster tray. The standout was the Marionberry Red, which surprised me since I'm generally pretty "meh" on reds. The berries cut the "redness" (malt, I guess) of the beer, which was nice. It was the best thing on the tray. There was a Sweetart Sour, which tasted like Sweetarts and was weird and gross. Their porter & stout both tasted like extremely burnt roast/coffee. The IPA was aged on fucking hickory axe handles (give me a break) and resembled what I imagine a sweaty lumberjack palm might taste like. The sampler glass of Goldfish on the tray was a nice touch though.

Grixsen - More of a traditional PDX décor, with wood/reclaimed wood, and an old sliding barn door. Again, a small crowd, but a little busier than Scout. The location is great though, with easy access to Beermongers & APEX before or afterward. Again, I had a taster tray. Started with the kolsch, which was fine & kolcsh-y. The Belgian blond was sweet, bubble gummy, and well, not good. Didn't finish the taster. I was looking forward to the fresh hop saison, but it seemed way over-hopped and just didn't work. And no one has ever accused me of being a hops detractor. The chocolate brown was on nitro. It was smooth, though very roasty and not very chocolaty. The stout & imperial stout were the best two on the tray that are officially on the menu, but the BBA stout (which is not officially on the menu & aged 5 months in Buffalo Trace barrels) was the best thing they offered. My buddy ordered the DIPA, which I guess is still being dialed in. I hope they keep dialing, because between the two of us, we finished less than half the glass.

I hate to sound jaded, but I wasn't too high on either of these places. I do, however, like to give new places a second chance after they've settled in, so I'll hope for better results on the second go-round.

Ecliptic is releasing Orange Giant Barleywine and BA Orange Giant at their brewery/restaurant on Saturday, Dec. 10. Tasty stuff. Really good food too.

FTFY. Place does sound a bit too precious though. A "fancy food vending machine"?

I stopped by on Saturday afternoon around 1ish. There were probably 6-8 people in at the various booths and bar seats. It's a pretty small space. The bartender was super friendly and their tap selection was excellent. I forget the exact hours but they do a daily happy hour (already forget what the deal is). I only had 1 beer but overall it seemed like a place I'd certainly stop by from time to time. Not sure what it would be like if it were busy with the small space.

Consider your fears confirmed (unfortunately). The beer is completely still, and it definitely affects the mouthfeel I'm afraid (priced at $18 a bottle at MofC). Not a drain pour, but the beer is so rich and boozy, it would really benefit from a bit carbonation... even just a little bit of carbonation.

Some local appreciation for this list: I'm off work this week, and I'm using this list as a reminder for the newest 2016 brewery openings, and as a checklist for the few places I still haven't visited yet. Cheers, @guajolote!

This is way late, but I ran across some cans at Saraveza at the Dragons Milk release (about 2-3 weeks ago) event that I just happened to walk into.

havent seen anymore around town which is strange. It was really good. $10 for the tall boy.

between the BA Ten Fidy, Dragons Milk, and HWestified, we are getting some really nice BA stouts at awesome price points.

yeah I passed on this years. I just cant deal with still / syrupy beer. Even just a touch of carbonation really helps.

I still drink the 2013 version at the tap room every few months. Split a bottle with a friend and it comes out to $10 for 6oz pour.

I'm visiting from CA this week, are there any (beer or non beer) NYE events worth checking out?

Thank you to everyone who keeps this thread updated! It's been a giant help in planning our trip

Drove down for the day with my wife and daughter yesterday. Wasn't beer focused but I was still able to have lunch at Great Notion and have some beers. Aside from some tax free shopping, the goal for the day was ramen at Afuri. Last time we were in Japan there was an Afuri down the street from our apartment and ate there 2-3 times during the course of a week. We had 30 minutes to kill before they opened at 5 so I was hoping we could pop into Growler Guys for a quick beer. I was bummed they're 21+, especially since the new one in Seattle is kid friendly. Headed over to Baerlic instead since it was close by and the kiddo could come in with us. Nice space, the beer was ok.

Afuri is a gorgeous space (sharing the building The Commons is in), and the Ramen was just like Tokyo but dammit, stop bringing over ramen places and trying to turn them into destination high dining. That defeats the purpose of ramen. Oh, the Yuzu Farmhouse made by Commons for them was really nice. Kept that beer related.

Stopped into GG again after dinner and got a Claim 52 Juice Station Flash crowler for NYE. Then back in Seattle by 10pm.

Coming to town next weekend with the GF. Where in town would we most likely find Lambic? Noticed apex has a hanssens beer on right now but surely it won't be on when we're there.
