I'm just impressed that you're still up and typing loooooong posts after getting up and arriving at 3:30 am (or earlier) and supposedly drinking some of those beers you waited 7 hours (in and out, haha) for. Bravo.

The release is done, let's move on and talk about beer again shall we?

So is BUTS as hot as AGE? I can appreciate AGE for what it is, but have a hard time getting past the heat to enjoy it more. Just wondering if the heat on BUTS is more subdued. Looks like it is starting to hit some spots around the city now, so might head out for a draft or fill tomorrow since I passed on the line today.

i can't wrap my head around this. you've said in multiple posts that "I needed to be in and out and I was", but your first post said you got there at 3:30 AM. How does waiting in line for 6.5 hours equate to being "in and out"?

this is what, the 3rd or 4th release in a row now that people started lining up before dawn when they could have just rolled in at noon or later and walked out with the same beer? getting in line 6+ hours before they open is worth saving 30 minutes of traffic on the way home?

the only reason for waiting in these stupid lines is for the conspicuous consumption of the beer you waited in the previous line for.

I have no idea what so ever, but if it's not, it should be.

I know, I've brought it up twice to him and he didn't respond. And he also strangely said people who got there later had an insane wait. Which was half as long as his own!

Well, it's an easy way to guarantee you'll be out as early as possible; using the rest of the day likely meant more to him than the overall wait.

Yeah, I get that obviously. It's the repeated claims to be in and out that don't make sense. Yeah, you're in and out AFTER waiting 7 hours first. You can really be in and out when you show up after the line is gone.

Ha, yeah. The "in and out" really doesn't make much sense.

I feel like OH should chime in (beyond the one sentence on Instagram) at this point. Whether on here, or more broadly on Facebook etc.

Not that I would typically say that a brewery owes it to anyone to explain the way they like to do business, but if there was some bad behaviour/upset neighbours this go round, then I'd say this would be a good point to explain their rationale/views around release day, and what steps they're taking to improve (as alluded to on instagram).

Hopefully this would quieten down both the butt hurt side, and more importantly the side who are telling the community on OH's behalf that this is what OH want (promoting ridiculously early lines and not caring how that affects the local area), which I can't believe is true.

No, it just seems like we're at this stage of the conversation. Happens every two weeks, lol.

    Nothing changes.

The expansion next door is going to help out a lot with releases. More room, more beer, less wait.

Yes it does. He lives out on Long Island with a wife and kids. He'd rather wait a longer time in the early hours of the morning so he can get home to be with them as quick as possible. The quicker he's done at OH, the quicker he's on the road. And factor in traffic being worse later in the day (in both directions) and it saves him even more time. I completely understand his logic and reasoning.

And this is coming from someone who walked in at 3:15pm yesterday, had barely any wait and was out with everything I wanted. I waited long (not quite that long)
once for Like Whoa and I doubt I'll do it again. There's so much good local beer that I personally don't think it's worth the long wait. Last night I actually preferred the new IPA from Interboro over the monkish collab.

    Alright, that's my morning rant.

Other Half isn't going to be changing anything until they have a big release and nobody shows up and they don't sell out of beer within hours. From a business perspective what theyre doing is working perfectly. They make a product, people line up, they sell the product. Any changes for selling the product like online sales, line monitoring, additional employees/registers would just decrease their profitability. If a bunch of shitlords want to drink all night, buy full allocations, and then ship it all over the country for them, what do they care? They can't control people and they aren't responsible for what people do on the sidewalks of NYC.

sorry I didn't address this, but a few others caught on. I should have said in and out as soon as they open. I waited before open so I wouldn't have to wait after open.

going in and out of Brooklyn from LI on a weekend is not a simple cruise on the highway. it is at best a 1 hr drive, but it can easily turn into 2 hrs. if you guys have kids down the road you'd get it. I am 100% certain you don't because if you did, being up in the wee hrs is a normal thing, and going to sit for a bunch of hrs w friends, even at that ungodly hr is a nice break. I would rather sit 6 hrs on the sidewalk at a beer release hanging waiting for it to open than 3 or 4 hrs in line after open watching ppl cut in front and being in a black hole on how long my wait is going to be or how bad traffic is getting. getting home when I said I would shows respect to my wife and family and also ensures no fight about going to the next release. I stopped going to releases a while ago because the lines took too long and I couldn't ensure I would be home at any time. going super early made that a non issue. I rarely go to these but next time I might go even earlier, pop a sleeping pill and just sleep in my car in front of the front door the whole night like most of the first 10.

Well, you're wrong there, I have two kids, but lucky for me they've always been good sleepers. They're old enough now that sleeping isn't an issue anyway. But I get your situation. I often miss releases due to my kids' sports schedules, so we all have our own issues. What works best for me is to cruise in after the line is gone, buy my beer, and cruise back to NJ. The whole thing takes me 2 hours.
